For a decade before he got involved with the Afghan cause, Charlie Wilson was Israel’s biggest congressional supporter. Then he toured the Sabra and Chatila massacre sites in Lebanon (Israel allowed Christians to go into the Palestinian camps and massacre the inhabitants for a couple of days) and felt sick. Without going public with his distress, Wilson looked for a new cause and found it in the Afghans fighting their Soviet invaders.
