A plea from the brother and victim of a predator

Yehuda Pogrow writes:

Meir Pogrow, the justly-condemned sexual predator, is my older brother. He is roughly nine years my senior. I share my story because I hope to launch a movement that will raise from the ashes of this tragedy a new hope for all victims of child abuse — whether or not the specific abuse is a crime in a given jurisdiction, or whether the victim is a minor or a young adult vulnerable to abuse by a perpetrator who holds a position of authority.

I identify with my brother’s victims, because I was — perhaps — his first. He first abused me approximately 30 years ago, in my boyhood years. My brother did not attack me sexually. Rather, over a period of roughly 10 years, he subjected me to severe physical, verbal and emotional abuse. He is short, but he was strong. He would lift me above his head, my whole body parallel to the floor, just let go, and walk away as I crashed to the floor.

I was 17 the last time my brother physically abused me. I had finally grown strong enough to defend myself. He chased me and tried to hit me, but I deflected him. When I thought he had quit trying to hurt me, I dropped my guard. He then stared me in the eyes with a gruesome expression. My arms were at my sides when he punched me, breaking my nose and giving me a concussion. The next day he told me — gleefully — that he broke my nose intentionally. He also explained that I deserved it, because I did not spend enough time studying Torah during my time off from yeshiva.

In my journey of recovery from my brother’s abuses, what has been most difficult to overcome is not the impact of the physical pain — what is most enduring is the psychological trauma and manipulation that he used in order to groom me for the physical pain.

It is this psychological torment that he inflicted that makes me identify so strongly with his later victims. Numerous victims of his torment have spoken out on Facebook. I suspect that it was on me that he first exercised those psychological abuses.

My brother’s carnage is massive, and it spans multiple continents, but it is tragically far from the only carnage. Abuse by faculty in the yeshiva school system has occurred for decades; yet today there remains no system-wide enforceable plan to protect children. Far too many administrators are enablers — at a minimum due to failures to act on complaints brought to their attention — in many of the crimes committed by faculty in yeshivas across the globe.

My brother taught at YULA, a Los Angeles yeshiva, in the 1990s. On Facebook, in a comment replying to a post about my brother, one YULA alumna stated, “But I clearly remember discussing him with other staff members and no one taking us seriously.”

In a separate comment, that same alumna wrote, “I do clearly remember discussing my discomfort about him to another teacher, possibly the principal after a discussion that he instigated about masturbation.”

The YULA administration should issue a public statement to either discredit this former student’s version of events, or confirm that it dismissed Meir immediately after they verified her complaints, and that it did everything in its power to ensure my brother was never allowed in a classroom again.

After leaving YULA, Meir joined the faculty at Michlalah, a school for young women in Israel.

Numerous Michlalah alumnae I met during my time as a student at Queens College in New York told me that my brother was verbally abusive, and that he fostered a cult-like mentality. His groupies were known as “Pogs.”

My brother was not the only perpetrator of abuses I experienced as a child. I was a victim of severe physical and emotional abuse in Yeshiva Bais Mikroh in Monsey, at the hands of Rabbi Gavriel Bodenheimer, among others. Bodenheimer and other faculty abused me — and many other children — more than two decades ago, as fellow faculty and my schoolmates looked on. Bodenheimer has since pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child. He is also subject to the typical restrictions imposed on sex offenders.

How could Bodenheimer have remained principal at Bais Mikroh until 2015?

I believe that on a per-capita basis, the magnitude of the cover-ups of sexual, physical, emotional and verbal abuses in the yeshiva system is on par with that of the Catholic Church.

JERUSALEM POST June 21, 2016:

A prominent rabbi and educator living in Beit Shemesh has been accused of misusing his authority and position for his sexual gratification.

An ad hoc rabbinical court of senior rabbis in Israel and the US issued a warning instructing women to avoid all contact with Rabbi Meir Pogrow, the founder of a website and study program called Master Torah, designed to aid the study of religious texts and retain the knowledge acquired.

According to the Master Torah website, Pogrow has rabbinical ordination from several authorities, including from the Chief Rabbinate, and is qualified as a rabbinical judge.

He has taught at Yeshiva University High Schools of Los Angeles, the Michlala seminary in Jerusalem, and was head of the Kollel (program for married yeshiva students) of Aish HaTorah in Jerusalem and Austin, Texas.

Following the publication of the rabbinical court ruling, Tamara Schoor, Pogrow’s former student, welcomed the decision but said the ruling had been “a long-time coming” and that the rabbinical court “should have addressed this a long time ago, but better late than never.”

Schoor told the press she met Pogrow at the age of 15 when “the process of grooming and manipulation began.”

She was introduced by a camp counselor who had been in contact with Pogrow while she was at Michlala, and was told the rabbi would be able to help her regarding questions about Judaism and religious faith.

Schoor would meet with Pogrow in New York at his mother’s house and he built up a mentor relationship with her over several years.

When Schoor came to Israel to study at Michlala at the age of 18, she made contact with Pogrow again, and would often meet with him at his home in Beit Shemesh, where she was also a frequent guest for Shabbat.

“Over the course of my year of religious study in Israel, he carefully broke down my personal boundaries, creating a high level of dependence and isolation, ensuring I was fully reliant on him for spiritual guidance, love and support,” she said. “Alone in a foreign country, he became my mentor, role model and family. A brilliant manipulator, he was able to convince me that his sole intention was to care for and empower me and my every action.”

Schoor said it took years for her to recognize and accept the insidious mind games, betrayal of trust and carefully orchestrated destruction of her innocence.

“It was only when I became aware of the existence of other victims that I was determined to take action and prevent additional abuse. I began a campaign of phone calls and emails, reaching out to anyone I could identify in the hopes of finding additional victims to speak out with and a safe and reliable method of publicizing it anonymously.

“But at every turn a door closed: victims afraid to be exposed, rabbis finding excuses not to address it, organizations lying to protect themselves and much more.”

Lightning Rod Pro-Hillary Clinton Super PAC Is Mostly Backed by Jewish Donors

Forward, Feb. 12, 2016: The largest super PAC backing Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race is turning its fire on rival Bernie Sanders — and it’s doing it with Jewish money.
At least eight of the top 12 donors the pro-Clinton Priorities USA Action are Jewish — and one more is married to a Jew. Jews have contributed over half of the $41 million raised so far by the super PAC.
Though the group had planned to save its money for the general election, Priorities will now spend millions in upcoming primaries to promote early voting among groups likely to back Clinton, and to run pro-Clinton ads in South Carolina, according to a report in the Washington Post.

Signs & Portents

Comment: There is no “deep mainstream interest amongst Christians in Revelations”. Studying Revelations for signs and portents only interests maybe 1-2% of Christians.

As far as Christian millennialism is concerned, early Christian Zionists (100-150 years ago) revived and reinterpreted traditional Jewish millennialism, giving it a big boost among fringy Christians … and making more than a few Jews extremely uneasy.

The traditional Jewish narrative is that (1) God kicked Jews out of Israel because they screwed up, (2) the Messiah (Moshiach)–a human, not cosmic being–would arise in Israel, (3) he would do battle with the forces of evil, (4) Jews around the world would flock to his standard and move to Israel, and eventually (5) the whole world would accept him as King of their Kings.

The big point being that Jews were supposed to wait until Moshiach told them to come back. They were NOT supposed to jump the gun, move to Israel, and deliberately force God’s hand. Oh, sure, they could move back, onesies and twosies, to just LIVE there, but not to try and create some Jewish Kingdom. That was blasphemy.

The Christian Zionists are in favor of Jews jumping the gun and moving back to Israel, because more Jews in Israel meant that Jesus (Messiah) will come again, not that the Jewish human warrior Moshiach/King of Kings will come the for the first time.

Christian Zionists are the largest group of millenialists. However, their activities are pretty much limited to Israel tourism, political and military support of Israel and donating to Israeli charities. No “heavy lifting” is required: just visit Israel, vote Israel, donate to Israel, and that’s about it. This leads to weird situations. For example, galut Jews hate Jerry Farwell, John Hagee and their ilk, yet Israeli Jews honor them.

NB: Neturei Karta and mainstream Jews still fight over the legitimacy of a Jewish kingdom/state in Israel. NK is happy to live and be ruled by goyim (both in Israel and elsewhere) until Moshiach returns and sounds his trumpet. For regular Jews in Israel, this is close to treason, particularly when NK is caught consorting with goyim like Abbas and Arafat.

Jim Brown On The Balcony

NEWS: The Hall of Famer has long been dogged by accusations that he physically abused women. Perhaps the most notorious charge came after his football career, in 1968, when police say Brown threw model Eva Bohn-Chin off the second-floor balcony of his Los Angeles home. Charges against Brown were dropped after Bohn-Chin, who was found on the ground below the balcony, insisted she slipped. Brown did pay a small fine for hitting a deputy sheriff investigating the incident.

Fewer people remember 18-year-old Brenda Ayres, a high-school dropout who in 1965 accused Brown of assaulting her in a Howard Johnson motel near Cleveland’s University Circle. Brown testified during his trial that he knew her and she visited his room. But he said he never assaulted her or had sex with her as she alleged. A jury acquitted Brown.

There have been more accusations that Brown demonstrated violent behavior off the field. CNN.com has a timeline about Brown’s life that notes many of his troubles, including a 1999 domestic disturbance with his wife, which led to Brown’s arrest. He was accused of making threats toward her. On the 9-1-1 tape from the incident, his wife said Brown threatened to kill her, a claim she later recanted, according to the CNN timeline. A jury found Brown guilty of hitting his wife’s car with a shovel during the incident. He was fined $1,800 and sentenced to three years’ probation and one year of domestic violence counseling, according to CNN.

Over the years, Brown has dismissed the accusations as largely a creation of the media.

“I don’t always claim to be the person who’s done the right thing, but the media’s singled me out as the most brutal cat that ever lived,” Brown told People Magazine in 1991. “I try to treat women with respect. The ones that know me like me and trust me.”

In a 1994 interview, A Plain Dealer Publishing Co. reporter asked Brown about his treatment of women.

“I’m not going to go over all that dried-up s— about women I supposedly beat up. … Anything I did regarding the law is part of the record,” Brown responded.

Brown never had trouble getting past the accusations – a benefit of the era when football was still largely just a sport, not the family-friendly entertainment and cultural juggernaut it tries to be today. He also never faced social media, which could have exploited the accusations against him and forced the NFL’s reawakening sooner.

Why Are Women Reporting On Sports?

Comments at Steve Sailer:

* I have often wondered about the marketing research that says female sideline reporters at NFL games are a good idea. Michelle Tafoya could eat crackers in my bed but we wouldn’t be talking about football because she knows less than I do which is not much.

* Women broadcasting sports? Retarded. I’ll buy into women broadcasting sports when there’s an ugly, sweaty female representative from some woman’s sports category on EPSN/NFL broadcasts. Until then, the know-nothing but cute little cookies that shake their cakes for the camera while they tele-prompt their way through a broadcast only represent high-level retardation. The women pretend to know something and the men pretend to listen.

* The top Premier soccer club in my state fields boys’ and girls’ teams at a variety of age levels. A few years ago, the boys’ U-15 team and girls’ U-18 team both won state championships. Someone in the organization thought it would be a good idea for the two teams to play a “friendly”. Much to the shock of the SWPL parents in the stands, the boys won by the selfsame 7-0 score, with the boys’ coach forbidding them from shooting during the final 20 minutes, and directing them to simply play “keep-away” with the ball.

Plot twist: Every one of the girls’ starters went on to play college soccer on a full scholarship the next fall. The boys all went on to their freshman year of high school.

* The disparity is even bigger in ice hockey. Any decent boys high school team will demolish female world champions. But if you want to elicit maximum rage from feminists, ask why there is a need for women chess tournaments.

* Women should not be in military combat at all. Even if they somehow physically qualify. It impacts cohesion of the unit.

I’m watching the Olympic trials for the women’s steeplechase. This is what women’s sports should be – cute girls in skimpy outfits running around and staying in shape. But when the mentally ill men start fighting for Title IX scholarships, women’s sports advocates will have to decide between women and trannies. I look forward to their decision.

* Trannies, like homos, tend not to dwell in the palace of truth.

* I’m far more concerned about the failure to get a minimum cup size imposed in women’s beach volley ball.

* I want to add to the pile of “separate but equal” nonsense the contention I heard last night that WNBA women players should be paid the same as NBA male players. Bill O’Reilly devoted his full hour to showing hilarious interviews conducted by Jesse Watters of young people (men and women) on various beaches around the country. Apart from the standard questions of who the U.S. fought in various wars (France, for some reason, was a favorite response), one young woman contended that she thought WNBA players should be paid the same as NBA players. Leaving aside the fact that WNBA games do not draw anywhere near the crowds or TV viewing audience as NBA games, there is the issue of whether it would be equal pay for equal work. We have the great example of professional tennis where women were able to extract the guarantee of same prize money as the men despite the fact that women only play best 2 out of 3 matches while men are forced to play best 3 out of 5 matches. That leaves aside the fact that Serena and Venus Williams were not able to come close to beating the 203rd ranked men’s player in 1998, as another poster noted the other day. Time to abolish women’s sports as a separate category altogether now that sexual identity has entered the picture.

Forward: ‘India’s Jewish ‘Lost Tribe’ Faces Hard Times in Israel’

It’s funny how all low-IQ groups have these problems.

Forward: The result so far has been a group plagued by absorption and integration difficulties as harrowing as those faced by many previous non-European immigrant groups in Israel — and maybe more so, thanks to their sheer distance from Jewish life until recently, and to the skepticism that still surrounds their claims of a past Jewish connection.
According to Malachi Levinger, the head of the local council of Kiryat Arba, a city in the West Bank where 700 Bnei Menashe have settled, including many placed there by Shavei Israel, at least 73% of the group’s youth are considered at risk.
With their parents mostly absent because of their need to work long hours at low-end jobs, teenagers from the community are prone to alcohol abuse, petty crimes and encounters with the police, said Yoni Nachum, coordinator of Bnei Menashe programs for the local council.
