Where have you gone, Betty Friedan?

By Abraham Cooper and Harold Brackman:

Betty Friedan was a twentieth-century American revolutionary who, in word and deed helped empower women everywhere. She was author of The Feminine Mystique (1963), founded the National Organization of Women (NOW), and “mother” of Second Wave Feminism that transformed the U.S.
What would have this feminist leader thought of the recent 653 to 80 vote by the National Women’s Studies Association to join the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement? The resolution condemned Israel for “injustice and violence, including sexual and gender-based violence, perpetrated against Palestinians and other Arabs in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, within Israel and in the Golan Heights.”
The resolution contained nary a word about the Palestinians’ current “stabbing Intifada,” most of whose victims have been Jewish women and children. Nor was there a single whereas about last summer’s unprovoked massive rocket onslaught launched from Gaza’s Hamastan using or about terror tunnels burrowed into Israel proper. Not a syllable about Palestinian curriculum and media, including cartoon anti-Semitism, venerating suicide bombers and enlisting youngsters into a culture of death.
What would Betty Friedan, that spunky Jewish housewife and mother who devoted her book and life to fighting what she called in the 1950s “the problem without a name,” have thought about American feminists who “include out” Israeli women targeted by terrorists from their movement?
Gil Troy’s book, Moynihan’s Moment—about how then U.S Ambassador, Daniel Patrick Moynihan spearheaded the fight against the adoption of the infamous 1975 UN “Zionism Equals Racism” resolution—contains a chapter focusing on Friedan’s realization that her fight for the feminist cause and commitment to Zionism were “indivisible.”
She was not an outspoken Zionist until 1975 when she attended the International Women’s Year World Congress in Mexico City, where she was shocked by the unholy trinity of “anti-Americanism, anti-Semitism, and anti-Zionism” among the delegates. In her article, “Scary Times in Mexico City,” Friedan recounted how dissenting voices among American delegates had their microphones turned off and their speeches shouted down. Israeli prime minister’s wife, Leah Rabin, was booed and boycotted, as the “Declaration on the Equality of Women” became one of the first international documents to label Zionism as a form of racism. For those of us who later experienced the same tactics at the UN’s Anti-Racism Conference in Durban in 2001, just days before 9/11, Friedan’s account reads like a piece of our own history.
Friedan declared that there a “larger never-ending battle for human freedom and evolution. Women as Jews, Jews as women, have learned in their gut, ‘if I am not for myself, who will be for me (and who can I truly be for). If I am only for myself, who am I?’” Back in New York, she formed an Ad Hoc Committee of Women for Human Rights in which Margaret Mead, Nora Ephron, Lauren Bacall, Beverly Sills, and Gloria Steinem, among others, joined her battle against the the odious “Zionism Equals Racism” resolution which the UN finally repealed in 1991.
The anti-Israel, anti-Jewish forces prevailed again at the 1980 International Women’s Conference in Copenhagen—where delegates met in a hall festooned with a larger-than-life portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini! —but at Nairobi in 1985 Friedan and her allies succeeded in ensuring “every reference to Zionism was gone.”
Later as the head of delegation of American Jewish women who participated in a US/Israel dialogue, entitled “Women as Jews, Jews as Women,” organized by the American Jewish Congress, Friedan inspired the founding of the Israel Women’s Network.

America and the Nexus between Free Speech, Minorities and Refugees

Rabbis Abraham Cooper and Yitzhock Adlerstein write:

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch infuriated many Americans when she told a Muslim gathering that the Justice Department would “take action” against individuals who “lift the mantle of anti-Muslim rhetoric.” Lynch, the highest legal official of the nation, seems to have had a momentary lapse about our Constitution, which guarantees Americans freedom of expression, including hate speech.

Her instincts about the potential damage from hate speech, however, were correct. Speech shapes attitudes, and attitudes lead to action. Free (hate) speech often comes at a hefty price for minorities targeted by hate on the streets and online. FBI statistics on hate crimes spawned by race and religion are topped by African Americans and American Jews, respectively, every year. When people paint all Muslims in deathly black hues, hatred and contempt are sure to follow. And sometimes bigotry translates into bullets or arson.

There is no gene for hatred. Youngsters learn it from others—from parents and peers; from sermons and social media. So Americans would do well to heed calls to oppose hateful barbs aimed at our Muslim neighbors.

It also follows that officials should be vigilant about attitudes of refugees seeking to emigrate to the United States. The Syrian people are trapped in a black hole of civil war, a criminal regime, wholesale slaughter and ISIS barbarity. The world has witnessed a desperate exodus with migrants and refugees literally washing up on mostly European shores. Here in the U.S, the President finds himself caught in a fierce debate with critics demanding that we know more about each applicant, lest there be ISIS operatives amongst them. Others object to questions visa applicants are asked, including: “Have you ever been a member of a terrorist organization?” Clearly, the entire vetting system needs a reboot.

A good place to start is in understanding the values the American-wannabees carry in their luggage.

Syria, before its descent into chaos, formalized a twelve-year educational system in 1967. Despite the secular tendencies of the Baath Party that controlled Syria for the last half-century, it included mandatory religious education. An overriding goal was convincing the majority Sunni population that the small governing Alawite sect were also good Muslims. The religious education incorporated by the Ministry of Education hewed to a strict – albeit not fundamentalist – Sunni interpretation, to the exclusion of all others.

Only a small number of studies of Syrian textbooks have been published, although they stop around 2003. Nonetheless, they give us a good picture of what Syrians who may soon be our neighbors were taught for decades.

According to one of the most cited studies, Prof. Joshua Landis at University of Oklahoma found that the Syrian textbooks do not malign Christians, unlike those of other Arab countries. However, Jews – not Israel – are singled out for contempt and extermination. A tenth grade text book teaches: “The logic of justice requires the application of a single inescapable verdict on the Jews; namely, that their criminal intentions be turned against them and that they be eliminated.”

All other religions are treated even more poorly. Landis’ summary: “Islam accepts only two choices for pagans [i.e. disbelievers, or members of any religion other than those that revere the Bible]: that they convert to Islam or be killed.”

Do attitudes of intolerance affect behavior? In a recent interview with La Stampa, Syed Farook, the father of San Bernardino mass murderer Syed Rizwan Farook, spoke of his efforts to convince his son that taking up arms was not necessary. His message to his son was hardly a model of tolerance and understanding. “Certain problems disappear on their own,” he said. “In two years Israel will not exist anymore. Geopolitics is changing: Russia, China and America don’t want Jews there anymore. They are going to bring the Jews back to Ukraine.”

Do attitudes determine behavior? Not always. But we owe it to ourselves to learn as much about pervasive attitudes in other societies, and figure out their impact on any candidate seeking admission to the US.

It can be done. Through carefully prepared, objective evaluative tools, applicants for intelligence work are screened for loyalty and likelihood of committing. The psychological community has similar exams that pick up on antisocial traits, deceit, paranoia, elitism, narcissistic qualities, ethnocentric delusions and other characteristics which would make some candidates excellent choices for admission, and others less so. That kind of screening, alongside medical evaluation, should serve as the cornerstone of the process.

COMMENTS:

* Polls show that most Muslims in all the Muslim countries hate America, Jews, and our civilization. Thousands Muslim clerics everywhere in the world teach masses of Muslims that Islam commands to murder non-Muslims. Muslims wage a war for our destruction. We should ban entry of Muslims. Otherwise, they will destroy us from within.

This ban has not against a freedom of religion, like an arrest of a murderer is not a violation of human rights. It is not based on religious or antireligious considerations. It is based on real facts of life, which show that Muslims use their religion as a justification for a war for a destruction of all non-Muslims and for committing innumerable crimes against humanity.

“Brownshirts are back” as Muslim “sharia police” patrol German streets — with official approval

Ezra Levant, a smart Canadian Jewish lawyer, writes:

We’ve told you before about Germany’s national suicide.

About how Angela Merkel the German chancellor, wracked by liberal guilt over the Holocaust, has decided that as some sort of karmic punishment, Germany must now be handed over to Muslim migrants.

She actually blames Europe in part for creating ISIS.

As Germany kills itself, sharia police have filled the void.

Muslim theocrats, walking through the city of Wuppertal at night, wearing jackets saying “Sharia police,” bully people into following sharia law.

No drinking, no music, no breaking Mohammed’s laws, just like they do in Iran and Saudi Arabia.

I’ll tell you about the notorious leader of these sharia police, and how Germany’s courts have actually granted him permission to set up this parallel police force.

Moving To Mexico

Comments:

* Mexico has immigration laws. It’s very easy to enforce them if you want to. And it’s humane, too. We don’t have byzantine bureaucracy delaying everything for decades. You can walk up to the border from Guatemala and just ask for a visitors’ permit and have an interview a few hours later but you can’t get away with taking a higher paying Mexican job because people will rat you out and the police do care, eventually. It’s the opposite of the USA where you can’t come legally without a phalanx of lawyers but there’s no enforcement at all if you come illegally.

* Net immigration between the USA and Mexico has been in the Mexican direction every year since 2007. That counts Mexicans coming to the USA, Mexicans going back, Gringos going to Mexico, Gringos going back, and foreigners moving between both countries. If you throw out the foreigners who are citizens of neither country, the net migration is even higher toward Mexico.

If it weren’t for the astonishingly high number of family reunification visas drawing people north, the net numbers would be even higher in the southerly direction; Mexicans who are only in El Norte for work are returning home in ever higher numbers. The long backlog of family green cards will keep migration north artificially high for years still. Those arrivals will resent America for the waiting and for making them commit to a move they wouldn’t even make by the time the free green card comes through.

And Mexicans are going south because Mexico is pretty great. Political reforms, neoliberal growth policies, education policy, and environmental reforms have delivered big improvements. Mexico’s life expectancy for nonsmokers is higher than the USA’s. Middle class Mexicans can afford to raise a family in a good school district. Mexican men are strong and confident while women are sweet, pleasing, and not emasculating Gringa harpies. Median young college educated Mexicans earn more (adjusted for cost of living) than median USA young college grads. Oh, and December isn’t miserable.

* In 1967, I accompanied my parents to look at the American retirement colony at Lake Chapala (where Fred Reed lives now, I believe). It was pretty nice.

Mexico is not doomed by nature to misery. It’s one of the more favored landscapes on earth.

And there are a lot of fairly easy steps to make it a better place, like more traffic stoplights.

I stayed in a hotel overlooking the main drag in Mexico City, the Paseo de la Reforma. The intersection below had no stop light even though it was one of major crossroads of the capital. It was fascinating to watch long lines of cars play Perpendicular Chicken with each other, but all the honking was kind of hard on the ears.

Jorge Castaneda implies that things like no stoplights are justified as keeping wimpy gringos out of Mexico. He says, however, that Mexicans would find they like not having to take their lives in their hands every time they try to walk across the street.

* Getting excited over ethnic food is so pre-2010s. More like 1990s and earlier.

Ditto “exotic” ethnic women. Wow, short, spindly, black hair and dark brown eyes, complexion varying shades of brown. So exotic. Not.

* So Frum points out that Republican insiders have been pushing wall-to-wall Latino vote strategy since 2012. They claim it’s the way back to the White House and the future of the party. And they never lose focus on that message.

Then they suggest that mass immigration is the way to appeal to Latino voters. Of course, mass immigration harms Latino citizens more than any other demographic. There is no one with most ruined neighborhoods, worse crime, or more competition for jobs from mass immigration than Latino US citizens. Making more of something they’re uneasy about isn’t going to win them over.

Of course, Republicans already run securely the governors’ offices, the Senate, and the House. And the national presidential race runs through states with very little Mexican-American influence. So there’s no obvious target that Republicans could reach even if they could win more Mexican-American vote.

So why are we getting such a narrative from Republican insiders? It might be just to push the donor class status signalling immigration explosion on fence sitters. Or it could be they’re stupid and nobody cares enough to explain it to them. I doubt Frum will make any impact.

Mexico would be a pretty easy place to improve. The Mexican concern is that they if they make it less cruddy it would get overrun by gringos.

* You can’t easily improve a high crime narco state like Mexico. Also Mexico’s racial demographics work against them. Mexico does not even make the list of the top 5 Whitest countries in Latin America percentage wise. Mexico has a glass ceiling due to it not being a majority White country. You can’t turn a country first world with only a 9 percent White population.

Mexico is San Bernardino on a much larger and worse scale. San Bernardino goes bankrupt after political power switches from White Gringo hands to Mexican hands. Mexicans don’t run cities like a well oil machine.

* San Bernardino is full of Walmarts and other national chains that are decently run by a mostly Mexican workforce. It doesn’t seem like Mexico couldn’t attain a Walmart level of prosperity and safety (although Owen would no doubt find it a change for the worse). Walmart itself was got off the ground by a bunch of hillbillies who figured out how to make things straightforward.

* A lot of things are getting better in Mexico. For example, the last time I checked (2011), used cars were really expensive in Los Angeles because as of 2006 Mexico had opened its border to American used cars, so they were vanishing from the Los Angeles market. But that means Mexico City’s fleet of cars is slowly turning into Los Angeles’ old fleet of cars, and Los Angeles cars have outstanding pollution controls. So residents of Mexico City have recently started to notice for the first time in decades as the smog lifts that they are surrounded by snow capped volcanos.

* At least one of the ethnic supermarkets in St Paul’s pan-Asian Frogtown (“pagodabodegas”?) uses Mexican stock boys. Is that a job young Asians won’t do? Or once you go outside your ethnic group, there’s no loyalty to race, at least among Asians?

For authenticity, though, the checkout girls are all Asian.

* Most Mexicans would rather work in a Nabisco (Mondelez) factory near their home and family instead of having to move to Chicago to work in that same factory. Even if they make less, their cost of living is lower too and they don’t have to live in a cold alien place full of uptight gringos and dangerous Negros. So, it seems like net Mexican migration has slowed to a crawl or even reversed.

The problem is that you still have Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, etc. where even Wal-Mart prosperity seems out of reach. Mexico is #67 in GDP rank but you have another another 130 countries below them. Places like Liberia and Somalia where the GDP/capita is less than $3/day and the main question is not whether you can afford a cheap flat screen TV for your hut but whether you will eat today.

* Technically, the worse a place is the easier it is to improve. The better it gets, the harder it is to improve further. But Mexico is on an upward trend so simple momentum might be enough for a while. Lately I’m enjoying the president’s Telecom Reform that is hoovering cash back from Carlos Slim’s wallet into mine at a pleasing pace.

* If the net flow of migration is southwards, how come all the border counties have been complaining about getting swamped the last two years? And why are there more and more native Spanish speakers that can’t speak a goddamned single word of English every year?

Hell, I was at Disney World a couple of weeks back, and some of the help at the Magic Kingdom couldn’t speak any English at all. And I’m talking about people in greeter-type roles, not just the people scrubbing the toilets.

The idea that Mexicans are leaving the country in droves is ludicrous on the face of it, and cannot be believed.

* I am currently living in Merida, Yucatan (population ~ 1 million; annual homicide rate ~ 2 per 100,000) and I think we have about 4 WalMarts here as well as Costco, Sam’s Club, Home Depot, Auto-Zone, Staples, Office Depot, McDonalds, Burger-King, Dairy Queen, etc., etc.

I, personally, don’t much like the heat and humidity; therefore, my (Mexican-born) wife and I are planning to eventually move back to Montana. But in terms of the people and the culture, it’s a toss-up between living here versus living in the USA.

In fact, if I had to live in some hell-hole part of the USA, like Southern California, then preferring to live in Mexico would be a no-brainer. It’s peaceful and idyllic here — especially now that all the Mexican criminals are in the USA.

* “Raven’s Standard Progressive Matrices test was administered to a representative sample of 920 white, Mestizo and Native Mexican Indian children aged 7–10 years in Mexico. The mean IQs in relation to a British mean of 100 obtained from the 1979 British standardization sample and adjusted for the estimated subsequent increase were: 98·0 for whites, 94·3 for Mestizos and 83·3 for Native Mexican Indians.”

And then let’s compare this to the racial composition of Mexico:

98.0: Mexican Whites
94.3:Mexican Mestizos
83.3: Mexican Amerinds

According to the CIA FACTBOOK, Mexico’s racial breakdown is:mestizo (Amerindian-Spanish) 60%, Amerindian or predominantly Amerindian 30%, white 9%, other 1%

Things are not looking good Mexico way…..

Now, let’s turn to real world achievements.Mexico and the Nobel prize. According to WIKIPEDIA, three people of Mexican origins have won a Nobel:

Alfonso García Robles: With Alva Myrdal, got the Peace Prize in 1982. For what it’s worth, he looks very White in his WIKIPEDIA photo.

Mario J. Molina: Along with Paul J. Crutzen and F. Sherwood Rowland, he got the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for studying the threat posed to the ozone layer by CFCs. Looks pretty White in his WIKIPEDIA photo.

Octavio Paz: 1990 Nobel in Lit. Based on WIKIPEDIA photo, he might have some Amerind ancestry (or he might not).

So, Three prizes. Total. As compared to 10 for Scotland, 15 for Australia, 23 for Canada, 74 for England , 306 for the USA, …..

Now, all of these figures are from WIKIPEDIA, so I’m sure that one could argue about the margins…but the overall portrait of Mexican achievement is pretty dire.

How about Fields Medalists?:

United States 12

France 10

Soviet Union (3) / Russia (6) 9

United Kingdom 7

Japan 3
Belgium 2

West Germany (1) / Germany (0) 1

Australia 1

British Hong Kong 1

Finland 1

Israel 1

Italy 1

Norway 1

New Zealand 1

Sweden 1

Vietnam 1

Iran 1

Brazil 1

(None Stateless) 1

I’ve left out Manjul Bhargava. His background is complicated.

So, Mexico has zero. Hell, all of Latin America has exactly one, which ties them with New Zealand.

Race creates the foundation upon which culture is built.Mexico’s racial mix produces mediocrity. In contrast, America’s overwhelming European racial stock allowed her to thrive.Mass immigration by Hispanic Amerinds and Mestizos is changing that.Soon, the USA will be as mediocre as Mexico.

Islam and the West: An Irreconcilable Conflict?

Pat Buchanan writes:

“I worry greatly that the rhetoric coming from the Republicans, particularly Donald Trump, is sending a message to Muslims here … and … around the world, that there is a ‘clash of civilizations.’”

So said Hillary Clinton in Saturday night’s New Hampshire debate.

Yet, that phrase was not popularized by Donald Trump, but by Harvard’s famed Samuel Huntington. His “The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order has been described by Zbigniew Brzezinski as providing “quintessential insights necessary for a broad understanding of world affairs in our time.”

That Clinton is unaware of the thesis, or dismisses it, does not speak well of the depth of her understanding of our world.

Another attack on Trump, more veiled, came Monday in an “open letter” in The Washington Post where four dozen religious leaders, led by Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, charge “some politicians, candidates and commentators” with failing to follow Thomas Jefferson’s dictum:

“I never will, by any word or act … admit a right of inquiry into the religious opinions of others.”

Intending no disrespect to Jefferson, if you do not inquire “into the religious opinions of others” in this world, it can get you killed.

“We love our Muslim siblings in humanity,” said the signers of Cardinal McCarrick’s letter, “they serve our communities as doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, journalists, first responders, and as members of the U.S. Armed forces and Congress.”

Undeniably true. But, unfortunately, that is not the end of the matter.

Did the worst attack on the United States since Pearl Harbor, 9/11, have nothing to do with the Islamic faith?

Did Fort Hood and the San Bernardino massacres, the London subway bombings and the killings at Charlie Hebdo, as well as the slaughter at the Bataclan in Paris, have nothing to do with Islam?

Does the lengthening list of atrocities by terrorist cells of ISIS, Boko Haram, al-Qaida, al-Shabaab and the Nusra Front have nothing to do with Islam? Is it really illiberal to inquire “into the religious opinions” of those who perpetrate these atrocities? Or is it suicidal not to?

There has arisen a legitimate question as to whether Islamism can coexist peacefully with, or within, a post-Christian secular West.

For, as the Poet of the Empire, Rudyard Kipling, wrote: “Oh, East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet, Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God’s great Judgment Seat.”

As of 1960, the Great Wave of immigration into the United States from Southern and Eastern Europe had been halted for 35 years. And the children of these millions had been largely assimilated and Americanized.

Yet, 50 years after the Turkish gastarbeiters were brought in the millions into Germany, and Algerians and other North Africans were brought into France, no such wholesale assimilation had taken place.

Why not? Why are there still large, indigestible communities in France where French citizens do not venture and French police are ever on alert?

What inhibits the assimilation that swiftly followed the entry of millions of Catholics, Orthodox Christians and Jews into the United States from 1890 to 1920? Might it have something to do with Islam and its inherent resistance to a diversity of faiths?

Set aside faith-based terrorism and Islamist terrorism, and consider the nations and regimes of the Middle and Near East.

Iran holds presidential elections every four years, but is a Shiite theocracy where the Ayatollah is a virtual dictator. Saudi Arabia is a Sunni kingdom and home to Wahhabism, a Sunni form of puritanism.

Those ruling regimes are rooted in Islam.

And while secular America embraces expressions of religious pluralism and sexual freedom, homosexuality and apostasy are often viewed as capital crimes in Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Where Islam is the ruling faith, the Quran is secular law.

Catholic historian Hilaire Belloc saw our future on its way, even before World War II: “[I]n the contrast between our religious chaos and the religious certitude still strong throughout the Mohammedan world … lies our peril.”

Historically, Christianity came to dominate the Roman Empire through preaching, teaching, example and martyrdom. Islam used the sword to conquer the Middle and Near East, North Africa and Spain in a single century, until stopped at Poitiers by Charles Martel.

And this is today’s crucial distinction: Islam is not simply a religion of 1.6 billion people, it is also a political ideology for ruling nations and, one day, the world.

To the True Believer, Islam is ultimately to be imposed on all of mankind, which is to be ruled by the prescriptions of the Quran. And where Muslims achieve a majority, Christianity is, at best, tolerated.

Nor is this position illogical. For, if there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his Prophet, all other religions are false and none can lead to salvation. Why should false, heretical and ruinous faiths not be suppressed?

Behind the reluctance of Trump and other Americans to send another U.S. army into a region that has seen wars in Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan leave us with ashes in our mouths, lies a wisdom born of painful experience.

WP: Donald Trump’s ‘schlonged’: A linguistic investigation

There is no such sin as sexism or racism or homophobia. These are made-up moral categories that did not exist prior to the 20th Century.

Washington Post:

“Republican frontrunner Donald Trump used a campaign stop in Michigan on Monday to make astonishingly sexist attacks against Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton,” the left-leaning ThinkProgress wrote. “… ‘Schlong’ is a well-known reference to a man’s genitals. There are no alternative definitions for the word, according to Merriam-Webster.”

Sexism for Trump, however, is nothing new. In an email to The Washington Post, Harvard University’s Steven Pinker, a noted researcher on language and cognition, pointed out that Trump, using a term that comes to English via Yiddish and Middle High German, may simply have been trying to say something else.

“Given Trump’s history of vulgarity and misogyny, it’s entirely possible that he had created a sexist term for ‘defeat’ (as far as I know there is no such slang verb in Yiddish),” Pinker wrote. “But given his history with sloppy language it’s also possible that it’s a malaprop.”

Trump’s problem? He’s a gentile who, linguistically, wandered too far from home.

“Many goyim are confused by the large number of Yiddish terms beginning with ‘schl’ or ‘schm’ (schlemiel, schlemazzle, schmeggegge, schlub, schlock, schlep, schmutz, schnook), and use them incorrectly or interchangeably,” he wrote. “And headline writers often ransack the language for onomatopoeic synonyms for ‘defeat’ such as drub, whomp, thump, wallop, whack, trounce, clobber, smash, trample, and Obama’s own favorite, shellac (which in fact sounds a bit like schlong). So an alternative explanation is that Trump reached for what he thought was a Yinglish word for ‘beat’ and inadvertently coined an obscene one.”

…Only one use of “schlonged” as a verb came from a respected political source. In 2011, NPR’s Neal Conan made this observation (to The Post’s Chris Cillizza) on the 1984 Walter Mondale/Geraldine Ferraro campaign: “That ticket went on to get schlonged at the polls.”

Respected by who? By people on the left? People on the right don’t respect NPR. They regard it as the enemy.

The reporter’s name? Justin Wm. Moyer. What kind of person uses a name like that? Is he a commie or a homo or just a garden-variety beta male?

Syrian Refugees Bringing Flesh-Eating Disease into U.S.?

Pretty sure my hippy friends are already busy crafting a homeopathic remedy that will keep us safe.

From Breitbart: JERUSALEM – There is a risk that Middle Eastern refugees entering the U.S. could be infected with a flesh-eating disease that is sweeping across Syria.

Health agencies confirmed that Syrian refugees have transported leishmaniasis to Lebanon and Turkey, where it has been difficult to manage and treat.

Compounding the problem, patients can be infected with the parasitic disease without showing symptoms for weeks, months, or even years, and an asymptomatic patient most likely doesn’t know that he or she is a carrier.

This means the health screening process for refugees could miss the disease entirely.

Breitbart Jerusalem spoke with healthcare experts, including an epidemiologist from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC’s Immigrant, Refugee, and Migrant Health Branch, which is responsible for guiding the medical screening of the Syrian refugees seeking to enter the U.S.

Volcano-like ulcers

Leishmaniasis is a disease caused by protozoan parasites. It is spread almost entirely by sandflies, including those present in the U.S.

There are three main types of the disease: cutaneous, mucocutaneous, and visceral leishmaniasis.

Cutaneous is the most common form among Syrians. It manifests in skin sores that typically develop within a few weeks or months of a sand fly bite. The sores can initially appear as bumps or nodules and may evolve into volcano-like ulcers.

Mucocutaneous leishmaniasis causes skin ulcers like the cutaneous form, as well as mucosal ulcers that usually damage the nose and mouth.

Visceral leishmaniasis, which has also been found among Syrian refugees, is the most serious form and can be fatal. It damages internal organs, usually the spleen and liver, and also affects bone marrow.

WP: Hate Groups Embrace Trump

I got this in my email this morning:

trump

The picture links here.

Are groups such as the NAACP that fight for the interests of blacks hate groups? Are groups such as La Raza (The Race) that fight for the interests of Hispanics hate groups? Are groups such as the ADL and the SWC (Simon Wiesenthal Center) that fight for the interests of Jews hate groups? How come all groups that fight for the interests of whites are automatically hate groups?

Who exactly is hating here?

Scientists Who Are Actually Really Stupid: #1, Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Milo Yiannopoulos, Breitbart, December 21, 2015

Neil deGrasse Tyson made the decision a long time ago to be a sort of media cheerleader for science instead of an actual scientist, and although he isn’t a great communicator, it was the right decision because he was unlikely ever to trouble the Nobel committee. Also, he is stupid and his politics are dumb.

Tyson, whom liberals love because they are racists who can’t believe a black guy could be smart enough to be a scientist and so spontaneously ejaculate and soil themselves every time they see him on TV, hasn’t published anything of note for years. The advantage of being a celebrity scientist is that you don’t actually have to do any science. You’re exempted from the usual “publish or perish” rules.

Even when he was making a go of being a proper academic, Tyson didn’t exactly have the most glittering record. He didn’t get the PhD he was studying for at the University of Texas and had to go elsewhere for his qualification. Obviously, rather than take responsibility for his academic performance, Tyson has blamed racism. In reality, Tyson was playing in bands and appearing on stage instead of completing essays. Typical science PhD students are at any given time either studying, teaching or sleeping.

It’s tough to avoid the conclusion that much of what is frustrating about Neil deGrasse Tyson stems from identity politics and the victimhood ideology peddled by leftist academics and journalists. Despite all his media success, Tyson insists that racism is responsible for his academic failures, alluding to sinister “forces” that keep women and ethnic minorities down.

In 2005, he said: “I know these forces are real and I had to survive them in order to get where I am today. So before we start talking about genetic differences, you gotta come up with a system where there’s equal opportunity.” He of course doesn’t address the fact that the only reason Neil deGrasse Tyson is on television at all, given his intellectual shortcomings, is that he is black.

Perhaps realising how ridiculous he sounds, the world’s most celebrated populariser of science has stopped talking about race in interviews and says he has never given an interview whose primary focus is race since 1993. Which is something, at least.

Social justice-inspired grievance culture has flavoured much of Tyson’s output during his media career. Indeed, some observers say he’s more left-wing propagandist than rigorous thinker these days.

Intelligence Genes Discovered by Scientists

Genes which make people intelligent have been discovered and scientists believe they could be manipulated to boost brain power.

Researchers have believed for some time that intellect is inherited with studies suggesting that up to 75 per cent of IQ is genetic, and the rest down to environmental factors such as schooling and friendship groups.

But until now, nobody has been able to pin-point exactly which genes are responsible for better memory, attention, processing speed or reasoning skills.

Now Imperial College London has found that two networks of genes determine whether people are intelligent or not-so-bright.

They liken the gene network to a football team. When all the players are in the right positions, the brain appears to function optimally, leading to clarity of thought and what we think of as quickness or cleverness.

However when the genes are mutated or in the wrong order, it can lead to dullness of thinking, or even serious cognitive impairments.

Scientists believe that there must be a ‘master switch’ regulating the networks and if they could find it, they could ‘switch on’ intelligence for everyone.

“We know that genetics plays a major role in intelligence but until now haven’t known which genes are relevant,” said Dr Michael Johnson, lead author of the study from the Department of Medicine at Imperial College.
