Absentee Voting Would Grant the World’s Jews Priority Over Israel’s non-Jewish Citizens

Haaretz: Once again Knesset members are trying to promote a bill that would allow Israelis to vote in elections here even when they are overseas. On its face, especially in an era in which technology enables one “to be” in two places at the same time, there is no reason why a citizen who is abroad cannot fulfill his or her democratic right. So why must this law be opposed?
Because in view of the demographic threat – the concern about losing the Jewish majority in this country – the millions of Jews living in the Diaspora, comprising half of the world’s Jews, are an untapped statistical asset that must appeal to doomsayers. Such a law could become a future opening for vote thieves or a magic formula for vote contractors. The unflagging enthusiasm for this law, as shown by its ardent supporters Benjamin Netanyahu and Avigdor Lieberman, is unsettling.
Coalition parties are obliged to give this bill their automatic support, but opposition Knesset members are also expected to support it, and some of them are even signatories on the bill (Zionist Union’s Itzik Shmuli, Eitan Cabel and Stav Shaffir). The bill’s explanatory notes state that this law exists in most democracies. This is true. However, the uniqueness of the Jewish nationality, with the denial of an Israeli nationality and the clear preference given to Jews by way of the Law of Return, invalidates the comparison of Israel to other countries. Not only is Israel holding 3 million people in the West Bank by force, without citizenship, it also has in its arsenal 7 million potential Jewish citizens as a doomsday electoral weapon.
The Law of Return grants instant citizenship to Jews. Granting voting rights from abroad will encourage Jews to acquire citizenship just for the purpose of voting. This can be done behind the democratic scenes or, in the spirit of these times, through remote granting of citizenship, making do with de jure “return” instead of an actual one.
This will grant much weight, even more than is the case today, to Jews living anywhere, even if they never lived here and have no intention of doing so (except in the event of “another Holocaust”), at the expense of non-Jewish citizens of Israel, in all things relating to the character and future of this country. Sheldon Adelson-style.
The more Israel stresses its affinity to Jews around the world above its commitment to its own citizens, the more it erodes its democratic basis. In doing so it harms not only its non-Jewish citizens but also its Jewish citizens, whose interests do not overlap with those of Jews who don’t live in Israel. Jews around the world will also be affected, with renewed – and this time perhaps justified – accusations of dual loyalty.
The idea of Israel as a shelter for the Jewish people is taking material shape under the leadership of Netanyahu, King of the Jews: Diaspora Jews will decide Israeli elections without having to live here. Meanwhile, in the Jewish condominium, the state of Israel is becoming dirty, dark and neglected, like a typical air-raid shelter in any random apartment building.

Observations

A friend says:

* Colin Kaepernick: For years, the NFL has wrapped itself in the flag, allowing the military to promote itself during games, and marketing football itself as the quintessential American sport. If the fan base and the league chooses to not “punish” Kaepernick, it will show that there has been a significant shift away from traditional American patriotism.

* Trump in Mexico. There seems to be a lot of criticism from Mexicans and even Trump opponents in the U.S. directed against Pena Nieto for inviting Trump. When Pena Nieto’s motivations for the invitation have been commented on, his personal unpopularity among the Mexican population is mentioned, but no one has said that what he is doing is prudent. Trump might get elected and the most important foreign relation that Mexico has to be mindful of is its relationship with the United States

Jews & The GOP

Polls show Trump is doing at least as well generic Republican presidential candidates despite the onslaught of the JewE (the Jewish Establishment).

Shmuel Rosner writes:

Jonathan Chait highlights the fact that Jewish neoconservatives were quick to jump off the Trump wagon. “Trump has struck at the heart of Jewish neoconservatism at a level deeper than mere doctrine,” he writes. But as the latest Gallup poll shows, the percentage of Jews who still have a positive outlook on Trump is not insignificant: 23% (compared to 52% for Clinton). According to Gallup, “Jewish views are by no means monolithic. A little more than half have a favorable view of Clinton, and nearly a fourth have a favorable view of Trump.” Last week, a survey in Florida showed Clinton leading Trump among Jews in the Sunshine State 66% to 23%.
Are you impressed by this number? The Forward used words such as “sweeping” and “landslide” in its story about the survey. Tablet Magazine used the word “whopping” in its headline. The Times of Israel wrote “crushing.” But I think that the NY Jewish Week’s more measured headline – Change Vote? Not for Jews in Sunshine State – is the better one. In fact, I might go even further and put a headline such as: Trump hasn’t lost the Jewish vote.
In other words: the fact that Clinton leads over Trump is hardly a surprise. When Jewish party identification tilts so heavily toward the Democratic Party, you would not expect it to be any other way. If there is a surprise in the two latest Jewish poll numbers, it is that Trump, with all of his problems, still has a chance to collect as many Jewish votes as Mitt Romney collected four years ago, and more votes than John McCain received eight years ago. That is to say: Many “neocons” are GOP Jews – but many GOP Jews are not neocons.

Steve Sailer: ‘Sounds like Trump dominated in Mexico. Carlos Slim’s NYT is livid’

Comments at Steve Sailer:

* Keep in mind that Pena Nieto is the arch-enemy of the financial savior of the New York Times, Carlos Slim. The current president of Mexico finally pushed through anti-monopoly legislation that has knocked, last I checked, about $20 billion off Slim’s net work.

* The guy sure has a motor. Really toning it down, I like him more every day.

* Trump’s position has been clear and consistent all along:
1. Build the wall.
2. Enforce our laws.
3. Immediate deportation of criminals and gang members.
4. Mandate e-verify, punish employers who knowingly hire illegals.
5. No welfare for illegals.

Once this is all done, there will be no new supply of illegals and many who are already here will leave because the jobs and welfare will dry up. Trump will not send deportation squads around to round up illegals (bad optics-the media would have a field day with that), but he also will never support a broad amnesty for all. He might allow some limited amnesty for a small percentage of illegals. It’s a good program, exactly what we need.

* Trump’s remarks in Mexico City after his meeting with Nieto were superb! Clear, direct, calm and polite yet unapologetic and patriotic. Of course, the MSM will make sure the voters never see or hear them.

If Trump can repeat this performance during the debates, he’s got a fighting chance.

Why did Tolkien Care About the Jews?

David P. Goldman writes: In the current issue of Commentary my friend Rabbi Meir Soloveichik discusses J.R.R. Tolkien’s fascination with the Jews, who are of course the Dwarves in the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, as Tolkien himself stated in a 1971 BBC interview. Tolkien was no anti-Semite (not, at least, according to the canonical definition, namely someone who hates the Jews more than is absolutely necessary). His views in The Hobbit were typical of the philo-Semites of the 1930s: the Jews/Dwarves are “calculating folk with a great idea of the value of money; some are tricky and treacherous and pretty bad lots; some are not, but are decent enough people…if you don’t expect too much.”

In the Lord of the Rings, completed after the Holocaust, Tolkien turned more sympathetic, depicting a great Elf-Dwarf friendship, and presaging (as Rabbi Soloveichik points out) a Jewish-Christian alliance against the forces of evil. One might add that in the Silmarillion, Tolkien’s early (but posthumously published) compendium of Middle-Earth mythology, the Dwarves were created before the Elves, just as the Jews came before the Christians–but by mistake, in Tolkien’s account.

In the Dwarves’ quest for their ancient homeland in the Lonely Mountain, Rabbi Soloveichik observes, Tolkien evinces a certain sympathy for Zionism.

But all this begs the question of what put the Jews at the center of Tolkien’s attention in the first place. Part of the answer is to be found in Tolkien’s lifelong effort to undo the pernicious influence of Richard Wagner, whose “Ring of the Nibelungs” is the most influential art work of the past two hundreds years (and in my view also the most pernicious). Wagner plundered the ancient Norse and Germanic sagas in the service of a revived paganism. Tolkien by contrast set out to repurpose the old pagan stories to make them a sounder foundation for the Christianity that would succeed them.

In Wagner’s pageant of gods and heroes, the aristocracy (the gods) establish their rule by treaties (covenants). But in order to maintain their rule they must hire the Giants (capital and labor) to build their fortress Valhalla, and steal the cursed gold of the Nibelung dwarves (the Jews). Wagner made clear in his writings and correspondence that the nasty Nibelungen were the Jews, whom he really, really hated. In one of his last writings he claims that the point of the Eucharist is to purge the communicant of pollutants to Aryan blood, in particular to remove the stain of Jewish blood from Jesus himself. Wagner stole the plot of his breakthrough opera “The Flying Dutchman” from one Jew (Heinrich Heine) and its musical portrayal of the sea from another Jew (Felix Mendelssohn), and then published a pamphlet alleging that Jews could only imitate but not create new art.
