Isn\u2019t the literal definition of racism claiming that someone is inferior because of their race? That wasn\u2019t what Trump seemed to be saying at all. He was accusing Judge Curiel of something else, namely frailty, a universal human condition.<\/p>\n<p>We all have biases and conflicts. We usually struggle to overcome them. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don\u2019t. Judges, who are supposed to be \u201cimpartial,\u201d have a special mandate to engage in that struggle. Trump\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/06\/03\/politics\/donald-trump-tapper-lead\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/06\/03\/politics\/donald-trump-tapper-lead\/', 'saying that Curiel, in this lawsuit, has failed to overcome them']);\" >saying that Curiel, in this lawsuit, has failed to overcome them<\/a> and is biased against him. (Certainly the media, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anncoulter.com\/columns\/2016-06-08.html#read_more\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.anncoulter.com\/columns\/2016-06-08.html#read_more', 'Ann Coulter notes']);\" >Ann Coulter notes<\/a>, has said it\u2019s practically Curiel\u2019s duty to be biased against Trump.)**<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The footnote goes Sonia Sotomayor&#8217;s views on race:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>** \u2014 Justice Sotomayor, when wising Latina, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/05\/15\/us\/politics\/15judge.text.html?version=meter+at+0&amp;module=meter-Links&amp;pgtype=article&amp;contentId=&amp;mediaId=&amp;referrer=&amp;priority=true&amp;action=click&amp;contentCollection=meter-links-click\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/05\/15\/us\/politics\/15judge.text.html?version=meter+at+0&amp;module=meter-Links&amp;pgtype=article&amp;contentId=&amp;mediaId=&amp;referrer=&amp;priority=true&amp;action=click&amp;contentCollection=meter-links-click', 'seemed to go even further']);\" >seemed to go even further<\/a> (Coulter and others note) suggesting<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cWhether born from experience or inherent physiological [yikes!] or cultural differences, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not fair to impute these controversial views \u2014 she talks of \u201cbasic differences in logic and reasoning\u201d \u2014 to Trump.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Trump is talking about Curiel&#8217;s possible Mexican nationalist bias, something a lot of Mexican-Americans have. Not only did Senator Sasse and Representative Ryan think that attacking Judge Curiel&#8217;s presumed bias was the &#8220;definition&#8221; of racism, <a href=\"http:\/\/cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com\/2016\/06\/03\/tapper-to-trump-is-that-not-the-definition-of-racism\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com\/2016\/06\/03\/tapper-to-trump-is-that-not-the-definition-of-racism\/', 'Jake Tapper did']);\" >Jake Tapper did<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s ask ourselves if these attacks on the Republican frontrunner&#8211;by fellow Republicans&#8211;are  actually the result of underground coordination. In his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/immigration-is-this-the-breaking-point-part-one-all-it-would-take-is-one-speech\">2015 speech<\/a> to the American Renaissance conference, VDARE.com Editor Peter Brimelow said<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>When I was younger, I used to believe elaborate socio-psychological theories of how this happened\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/vdarecom-101110-thinking-about-joe-sobran\">Joe Sobran<\/a>, who I\u2019m sure <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/font-colorblackjoe-sobran-r-i-pfont\">many of you remember,<\/a> used to have this concept of the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sobran.com\/hive\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.sobran.com\/hive\/', 'Hive']);\" >Hive<\/a>,\u201d that all liberals do the same thing at the same time because they have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sobran.com\/hive\/hive.shtml\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.sobran.com\/hive\/hive.shtml', 'this collective mindset']);\" >this collective mindset<\/a>. But now I think it\u2019s all a damn conspiracy.<\/p>\n<p>And I think that the discovery of that JournoList <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/JournoList\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/JournoList', 'listserv group']);\" >listserv group<\/a>, where MSM Leftists were actually <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/journolist-on-muffling-discussion-of-rev-wright\">conspiring during Obama\u2019s 2008 election<\/a> campaign, to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/theres-a-reason-for-the-two-minute-hate-against-steve-king-hes-right\">beat up<\/a> on conservatives and accuse them of racism, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/national\/archive\/2010\/07\/meet-the-new-journolist-smaller-than-the-old-journolist\/60159\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/national\/archive\/2010\/07\/meet-the-new-journolist-smaller-than-the-old-journolist\/60159\/', 'proves it.']);\" >proves it.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So is this &#8220;textbook definition&#8221; meme a &#8220;textbook&#8221; example of the GOP Donorist wing conspiring against Trump? Mickey Kaus writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s pretty clear something else is behind the hyperbolic righteousness of the GOP outrage: either a desire of pols like Ryan to <del>posture<\/del> distance themselves from Trump politically, or to actively undermine him \u2014 maybe in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/talk-grows-replacing-trump-convention-000000790.html\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/talk-grows-replacing-trump-convention-000000790.html', 'hard-to-kill hope']);\" >hard-to-kill hope<\/a> for a <a href=\"https:\/\/caffeinatedthoughts.com\/2016\/06\/donald-trump-blocked-convention\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'https:\/\/caffeinatedthoughts.com\/2016\/06\/donald-trump-blocked-convention\/', 'last-minute-sneak convention substitution']);\" >last-minute-sneak convention substitution<\/a>. Or to simply find what Lindsey Graham called an \u201coff ramp\u201d from participating in his campaign. Fine. They\u2019re allowed. But let\u2019s recognize it for what it is.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What it is is sabotaging the GOP&#8217;s chance of beating Hillary, but that apparently doesn&#8217;t matter to these guys. Oh, as for the actual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/as-the-old-saying-goes\">&#8220;textbook definition&#8221;<\/a> of racism, here it is:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBecause the term \u201cracist\u201d is now so debased, I usually shrug such smears off by pointing to its new definition: <em>anyone who is winning an argument with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/brock-crock-re-vdarecoms-sailer\/\">liberal<\/a>.<\/em>Or, too often, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/emotion-at-reason\">libertarian<\/a>.
