Even though he\u2019s officially reached retirement age, Limbaugh will do some form of audio programming in the years to come. His love for what he does is obvious: On air, Limbaugh often says he\u2019s \u201chaving more fun than a human being should be allowed to have.\u201d And he sounds like he means it.
\nIndeed, his infectious enthusiasm is one quality that explains something important that Limbaugh\u2019s detractors miss: He\u2019s really good at what he does. He takes very few callers, and conducts almost no interviews. For three hours, he just talks. And he\u2019s funny, unpredictable, stimulating. No easy feat.
\nBut Limbaugh\u2019s raw talent and sheer joie de vivre won\u2019t be enough to save his current business model in an environment where his advertisers and affiliates have increasingly headed for the doors. In that sense, \u201cFlush Rush\u201d appears to be the rare boycott that actually worked.
\nShould Limbaugh leave terrestrial radio, it will be difficult to find a substitute. \u201cIs there a voice that can replace him?\u201d asks Baltimore\u2019s Beaven. \u201cThat\u2019s hard.\u201d
\nFor KOWL\u2019s Steve Harness, however, it didn\u2019t turn out to be that hard at all: He replaced Limbaugh with Dennis Prager, the cerebral conservative talker who broadcasts out of Southern California.
