\u201cI hate that beaner,\u201d one text reads, \u201cbut I think the nig is worse.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIndian ppl are disgusting,\u201d proclaims another.<\/p>\n

\u201cBurn down walgreens and kill the bums,\u201d a third message states.<\/p>\n

These and numerous other racist and homophobic text messages were allegedly sent by a San Francisco police officer at the center of an ongoing scandal that is the most recent disturbing revelation for the beleaguered SFPD.<\/p>\n

CNN has exclusively obtained a list of dozens of offensive texts sent to and from Officer Jason Lai. {snip}<\/p>\n

Lai resigned from the department earlier this month, according to a police spokesman.<\/p>\n

In addition to disparaging blacks, Hispanics and Indians, Lai used coded language to talk about gay officers, according to a source, and made a blanket statement impugning residents of the city\u2019s largely minority and low-income Tenderloin district.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re all drug dealers in the TL,\u201d his text stated.<\/p>\n

In the messages, Lai makes a disparaging joke about President Obama and says he hates basketball player LeBron James.<\/p>\n

\u201cF\u2014 that nig,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Lai, who was identified as Chinese by his attorney, makes several references to \u201chock gwai,\u201d apparently a misspelled reference to the Cantonese \u201chak gwai,\u201d a derogatory phrase for African Americans.<\/p>\n

In a series of texts sent last June he describes an incident involving a \u201cbunch of hock gwais shooting each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSprained my ankle over these barbarians,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

One of the suspects \u201cwent to the hospital after he got shot lol,\u201d the officer texted.<\/p>\n

\u201cToo bad none of them died,\u201d he added. \u201cOne less to worry about.\u201d<\/p>\n

In another exchange referencing African Americans, Lai wrote: \u201cThey\u2019re like a pack [of] wild animals on the loose.\u201d<\/p>\n

The exchange happened during a night of civil unrest in Baltimore following the death of Freddie Gray. Gray, an African American, died after suffering head and neck injuries in the back of a police van.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
