But after the meeting, while participants were speaking with the media, he was caught on camera saying Channel 12 reporter Monique Griego had \u201cnice tits.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t believe that someone in his position would not understand how inappropriate that comment was at the time that he made it,\u201d says Ray Stern, a reporter for the Phoenix New Times, who was talking to Griego at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere\u2019s the leader of the NAACP talking about the N-word and then making this comment, that was more inappropriate than I could even believe,\u201d he tells ABC 15.<\/p>\n

The news station reports Harris doesn\u2019t believe Griego heard him at the time and says he feels like he let down the NAACP. He calls his comment \u201cugly\u201d and says it just slipped out \u201cguy to guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the reaction, Harris now says he feels \u201cdown in the dumps.\u201d<\/p>\n

The New Times contacted Harris after that incident and reports the NAACP leader said, \u201cI apologize if anyone was offended. I could have said nothing . . . I\u2019m really f*cking sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n

He argued that the meeting was over when he complimented the reporter\u2019s rack and then really blew a gasket (edited for a family audience):<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to slash my wrists,\u201d he spews. \u201cBetter yet, I\u2019m going to throw myself out of a f*cking window, except I\u2019m on the first floor . . . I\u2019m one of the best g*dd*mned people in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n

People criticized him when he first took over the NAACP chief post from the Reverend Oscar Tillman, who retired in 2014 after 22 years in the position, he says, because \u201cI was the wrong flavor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve seen me now, they\u2019ve seen what I\u2019ve done. I\u2019ve given up my law practice. I\u2019m down here six, seven days a week. That\u2019s what my commitment is. I support NOW, the women\u2019s organization \u2014 g*dd*mn! \u2014 are you sh*tting me? Are you going to write this up?\u201d<\/p>\n

Griego didn\u2019t comment on the situation but Harris insists he wants to apologize face-to-face. (Of course he does.)<\/p>\n

Last June, when white NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal was exposed for pretending to be black, Harris appeared on CNN and claimed \u201ccredibility\u201d is one of the most important assets the organization has.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a race-based organization \u2014 the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. And being a race-based organization, when you have a leader in any capacity, you\u2019ve got to have credibility.<\/p>\n
