\nRainier Beach Yoga in Seattle has allowed \u201cfive queer people of color\u201d to create a special class entitled \u201cyoga for people of color,\u201d an exclusionary yoga session whose rules expressly forbid \u201cwhite people\u201d from attending, reports KIRO radio host Dori Monson.<\/p>\n
\nThe class also invites \u201clesbian, bisexual, gay, queer and trans-friendly\/affirming,\u201d and identifies which \u201cpeople of color\u201d are OK, such as \u201cAfrican American\/black\/of the African Diaspora, Asian, South Asian, West Asian\/Arab\/Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, First Nations\/Alaskan Native\/Native American\/Indigenous, Chicano\/Latino, or Multiracial\/Mixed-Race.\u201d
\n\u201cWhite friends, allies and partners are respectfully asked not to attend,\u201d the email, which the radio host says was also sent to him by the listener, specifically states.
\nTeresa Wang, one of the co-founders of the class, was asked what were to happen if a white person were to attend.
\n\u201cWell, it\u2019s a class for people of color, so he would be coming to that class knowing that we\u2019re really clear about who we are asking to come to class, so\u2026I\u2019m not really sure because it hasn\u2019t happened to us,\u201d Wang said, who iterated the class was about making \u201cpeople of color\u201d feel comfortable. \u201cSo I don\u2019t really know.\u201d
\nIf the roles were to be reversed, according to Morrison, and a \u201cwhites only\u201d session were to be held, people would lose their shit.
\n\u201cIt would be a lead story on national news,\u201d Morrison said. \u201cIt would be blared across all the websites about the racist yoga class in Seattle. And the fact is, this yoga class is every bit as racist as a bunch of white people who say they don\u2019t want to be around somebody of color.
