{"id":84789,"date":"2016-01-08T09:47:11","date_gmt":"2016-01-08T17:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=84789"},"modified":"2016-01-08T09:47:11","modified_gmt":"2016-01-08T17:47:11","slug":"judge-ignored-warnings-freed-slasher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=84789","title":{"rendered":"Judge ignored warnings, freed \u2018slasher\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lukeford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/slasher2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-84790\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lukeford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/slasher2-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"slasher2\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-84790\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/slasher2-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/slasher2.jpg 664w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><A HREF=\"http:\/\/nypost.com\/2016\/01\/08\/judge-ignored-warnings-let-slasher-loose-despite-30-arrests\/\">New York Post<\/a>: The career criminal charged with slashing a woman on her way to work in Chelsea was on the streets because a judge \u00adignored warnings that he\u2019s a \u201chigh risk\u201d defendant and sprung him without bail on an earlier \u00adassault, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n<p>Kari Bazemore is also suspected in yet another attack on a Bronx woman after Manhattan Judge Laurie Peterson set him free on Dec. 31.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe screwed up big time,\u201d a court source said of Peterson, who has a reputation among courthouse regulars for being smart and fair. \u201cWas her head in the sand that day or something?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bazemore, 41, who has more than 30 prior arrests, appeared before the Mayor de Blasio-appointed jurist on charges he slugged a woman in Greenwich Village as she walked with her husband on Dec. 30.<\/p>\n<p>He was established as a \u201chigh risk\u201d of flight \u2014 a key factor for judges in setting bail \u2014 by the New York City Criminal Justice Agency, which evaluates all defendants before their arraignments.<\/p>\n<p>The nonprofit determined Bazemore was likely to skip his next court date and \u201cnot recommended for ROR [release on his own recognizance],\u201d documents state.<\/p>\n<p>Agency reps interviewed Bazemore and gave him an abysmal score of negative-6 on his CJA assessment \u2014 the lowest being negative-10, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>He lost points for not have a working phone, not knowing anyone who could appear at his arraignment and having prior warrants.<\/p>\n<p>Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Ashley Foote \u2014 who asked for $1,000 bail \u2014 also said during his arraignment that he had \u201cthree misdemeanor convictions\u201d and had failed to appear in court once before.<\/p>\n<p>She told the judge that Bazemore admitted to cops that, \u201cI pulled my hand out of my pocket and it landed on her face.
