That&#8217;s Identity 101. <\/p>\n<p><A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/worldviews\/wp\/2016\/01\/07\/the-response-to-an-israeli-officials-ban-on-a-jewish-arab-love-story-a-video-of-jews-and-arabs-kissing\/?hpid=hp_hp-cards_hp-card-world%3Ahomepage%2Fcard\">Washington Post<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/N8DMGaeDXE4\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>JERUSALEM \u2013 How have Tel Aviv\u2019s young liberals responded to a decision by Israel\u2019s conservative, right-wing education minister to ban a novel about forbidden love between an Israeli Jew and a Palestinian Muslim?<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ve made a video of Israelis and Palestinian kissing each other.<\/p>\n<p>Published online Thursday morning by the magazine Time Out Tel Aviv, the video shows six young couples \u2013 male, female, straight and gay \u2013 kissing for the first time. Some of the pairs were already friends, and others had never met before. (It\u2019s a take on the Tatia Pilieva 2014 project First Kiss)<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, its almost impossible to tell who is Israeli and who is Palestinian in the video.<\/p>\n<p>The provocative clip comes a week after it was revealed that Israel&#8217;s Education Ministry had disqualified Dorit Rabinyan\u2019s book \u201cBorderline\u201d from a list of recommended reading for an advanced high school literature course. Yet to be released in English, &#8220;Borderline&#8221; is the story of an Israeli Jewish woman and a Palestinian Muslim man who meet in New York, fall in love and then part ways. She returns to Tel Aviv and he to Ramallah.<\/p>\n<p>The Education Ministry said it banned the book from its literature list to maintain the \u201cidentity and heritage of students in every sector.\u201d Ministry officials were worried that the \u201cintimate relations between Jews and non-Jews threatens the separate identity,\u201d reported Israeli daily Haaretz, which broke the story.<\/p>\n<p>Some of Israel\u2019s more liberal lawmakers criticized the move, calling it racist and a gross attempt at censorship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jews interested in the health of the Jewish people don&#8217;t want Jews dating and marrying non-Jews.
