Comment<\/a>: Juniper Networks, a maker of very large routers that transfer much corporate and internet data, announced today that they discovered \u201cunauthorized code\u201d in their routers that would allow someone to decrypt data sent over VPNs and also gain access to their devices. This code has apparently been there since 2012.<\/p>\n

They have not said anything about how it could have gotten there. Over on Twitter some are daring to speculate that it was \u201cthe Chinese,\u201d some say the NSA. I would guess it\u2019s the Chinese, but not by somebody hacking into Juniper\u2019s systems. No. Bet your bottom dollar that hundreds of Chinese work at Juniper, and one of them did this because he was, of course, loyal to China, or blackmailed, or bribed. But I would bet a million bucks that if they ever find who did it, it will be a Chinese national (maybe an Indian or Russian) working for Juniper because diversity and H-1B (the international corporate spy program).<\/p>\n

I\u2019m curious how \u201cbig\u201d this story will play with the media. In reality, it\u2019s beyond huge. It\u2019s absolutely disastrous.<\/p>\n
