{"id":8239,"date":"2009-02-16T15:20:47","date_gmt":"2009-02-16T23:20:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=8239"},"modified":"2009-02-16T15:20:47","modified_gmt":"2009-02-16T23:20:47","slug":"rabbis-removed-from-facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=8239","title":{"rendered":"Rabbis Removed From Facebook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/Taking-the-Rabbi-Out-of-Facebook.html\">From Philadelphia<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph1\">Some local rabbis noticed something strange when they signed onto their <a title=\"Facebook Inc.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/topics?topic=Facebook+Inc.\">Facebook<\/a> accounts Friday morning &#8212; their title was gone from their profile.<\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph2\">Just in time for Shabbat they&#8217;ve taken the &quot;Rabbi&quot; away from the social network.<\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph3\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chabad.org\/\">Chabad<\/a> rabbis throughout the country began to notice the title &quot;Rabbi&quot; being dropped from their accounts on Thursday night, according to a source.<\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph4\">A simple search for the term Rabbi on Facebook reveals a slew of local <a title=\"Philadelphia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/topics?topic=Philadelphia\">Philadelphia<\/a> rabbis who no longer have the title &quot;Rabbi&quot; at the beginning of their Facebook names.<\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph5\">NBCPhiladelphia.com tracked down the people over at Facebook for a response to this supposed dropping of names.<\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph6\">&quot;We do have systems in place that block people from using certain words and titles in their names,&quot; said Simon Axten with Facebook.com.<\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph7\">&quot;This is to prevent abuse and help maintain our real name culture, which drives accountability on the site,&quot; said Axten.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph8\">To be fair to the Facebook people a search for Reverend and Pastor also yields few results for the Philadelphia area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Philadelphia: Some local rabbis noticed something strange when they signed onto their Facebook accounts Friday morning &#8212; their title was gone from their profile.
