Washington Post<\/a>: Amid an outcry over Donald Trump\u2019s proposed ban on Muslims entering the country<\/a>, prominent evangelist Franklin Graham has come out in support of the Republican presidential candidate\u2019s plan, saying that he has been advocating a similar stance for months.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor some time I have been saying that Muslim immigration into the United States should be stopped until we can properly vet them or until the war with Islam is over,\u201d Graham wrote on Facebook on Wednesday<\/a>. \u201cDonald J. Trump has been criticized by some for saying something similar. The new Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said yesterday that he disagrees \u2014 saying that \u2018such views are not what this party stands for and more importantly it\u2019s not what this country stands for.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cPoliticians in Washington seem to be totally disconnected with reality.\u201d<\/p>\n

…In July, Graham, the son<\/a> of Billy Graham, wrote on Facebook that<\/a> the country should \u201cshould stop all immigration of Muslims to the U.S. until this threat with Islam has been settled.\u201d That post<\/a> came after four Marines and a sailor were fatally shot at military facilities in Chattanooga, Tenn<\/a>., by a Kuwait-born U.S. citizen from a conservative Muslim family.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery Muslim that comes into this country has the potential to be radicalized \u2014 and they do their killing to honor their religion and Muhammad,\u201d Graham wrote at the time<\/a>. \u201cDuring World War 2, we didn\u2019t allow Japanese to immigrate to America, nor did we allow Germans. Why are we allowing Muslims now?\u201d<\/p>\n

Graham has long been an outspoken critic of Islam, the Religion News Service reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n

After the 9\/11 terrorist attacks, he called Islam a \u201cvery evil and wicked religion\u201d and last year called Islam \u201ca false religion.\u201d In 2010, he apologized after questioning President Obama\u2019s Christian faith, saying he was \u201cborn a Muslim \u2026 and the Islamic world sees the president as one of theirs.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
