The border with Syria has been quiet with 30+ years. A stable dictatorship is good to work with \u2013 they are a known quantity and are capable of keeping their word. If they don\u2019t, you know that it came from the top and respond accordingly. Even now, Israel has been careful to remain neutral in the Syrian civil war \u2013 their ground rules are that they retaliate if anyone (whether Assad or rebel) violates their frontier but otherwise they will just watch while the Syrians kill each other.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* Other than random internet comments, I\u2019ve never seen any proof that Israel wants Assad out. I admit I haven\u2019t read intensively but WikiLeaks reveals ambiguous attitudes. They didn\u2019t like him for supporting Hizb. and Hamas, but admitted he kept the border quiet.
