REPORT<\/a>: Australia: Muslims complain that singing anthem is \u201cforced assimilation\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIslamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir decries \u2018forced Muslim assimilation,\u2019\u201d by Ean Higgins, The Australian, November 1, 2015 (thanks to Kenneth):<\/p>\n Requiring schoolchildren to sing the national anthem, and the citizenship pledge supporting democratic values, are part of an oppressive campaign by Australian authorities of \u201cforced assimilation\u201d of the Muslim community, a conference heard this morning.<\/p>\n The conference held by Islamist activist group Hizb ut-Tahrir entitled \u201cInnocent Until Proven Muslim\u201d is taking place at Bankstown in Sydney\u2019s west, attended by about 800 people.<\/p>\n Hizb ut-Tahrir spokesman Uthman Badar told the conference the Australian government \u201cclaims to afford freedom, but seeks to impose values and beliefs\u201d on Muslims.<\/p>\n Muslims were expected to not just be gracious about Australian values, but publicly promote them, Mr Badar said.<\/p>\n This imposition of secular western values was reflected in the oath when taking out citizenship, Mr Badar said, with new citizens required to pledge allegiance to Australia \u201cwhose democratic beliefs I share\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not enough that you obey the law, no, you have to adopt our values,\u201d Mr Badar told the conference.<\/p>\n Similarly, Mr Badar said, schoolchildren were required to sing the national anthem, which he said, \u201creflects a disputed view of history\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you don\u2019t share those values, why should they be forced to sing it?\u201d Mr Badar said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Chaim Amalek: “I really love these guys.
