Over the past few months, snarky right wingers have popularized the term \u201ccuckservative\u201d\u2014a portmanteau of cuckold and conservative\u2014on social media and message boards, most notably the website and Facebook group, <a href=\"http:\/\/therightstuff.biz\/2015\/07\/29\/cuckservatism-rs-mccain\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/therightstuff.biz\/2015\/07\/29\/cuckservatism-rs-mccain\/', 'The Right Stuff, ']);\" >The Right Stuff, <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/mpcdot.com\/forums\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/mpcdot.com\/forums\/', 'My Posting Career,']);\" >My Posting Career,<\/a> and twitter accounts like <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cuckservative\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cuckservative', '@Cuckservative']);\" >@Cuckservative<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jokeocracy\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'https:\/\/twitter.com\/jokeocracy', 'Snark Enlightenment.']);\" >Snark Enlightenment.<\/a><span style=\"color: #993300;\"> [<strong>VDARE.com note:<\/strong> <em>This marks the first time the term has appeared on VDARE.com, because of Editor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/users\/peter-brimelow\">Peter Brimelow\u2019<\/a>s notorious prudishness<\/em>]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some of these memes were vulgar and even more Politically Incorrect than sites like VDARE and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amren.com\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.amren.com\/', 'American Renaissance']);\" ><em>American Renaissance<\/em><\/a>. Yet many were original, funny, and struck at the truth of the Republican Party and Conservatism Inc.\u2019s failure to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/happy-white-married-people-vote-republican-so-why-doesnt-the-gop-work-on-making-white-peopl\">actually conserve the people <\/a>who<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/gop-future-depends-on-winning-larger-share-of-the-white-vote\"> created and support it<\/a>. A couple of examples:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Cuckservatives\u2026 A person who wishes for America&#8217; return to 1950&#8217;s values\/strength, without admitting the nation was 90% white then&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>White children need to become a minority and the USA a third world country through LEGAL, not illegal immigration<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Immigration isn&#8217;t a winning issue, let&#8217;s talk about tax cuts for corporations with rainbow avatars instead.&#8221; &#8211;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[<a href=\"https:\/\/occamsrazormag.wordpress.com\/2015\/07\/26\/important-roundup-of-cuckservative-articles-and-memes\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'https:\/\/occamsrazormag.wordpress.com\/2015\/07\/26\/important-roundup-of-cuckservative-articles-and-memes\/', 'Important: Roundup of #Cuckservative articles and memes']);\" ><em>Important: Roundup of #Cuckservative articles and memes<\/em><\/a>, Occam&#8217;s Razor Mag, July 26, 2015]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While most of this was tongue-in-cheek, Alfred Clark published a serious definition of it on <em>Radix Journal:<\/em> a white conservative or libertarian   \u201cwho thinks he\u2019s promoting his own interests but really isn\u2019t.\u201d He further noted that the cuckservative will try to attack the Left by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tpnn.com\/2014\/11\/05\/liberals-lose-it-show-they-are-the-real-racists-with-their-reaction-to-wins-by-tim-scott-and-mia-love\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.tpnn.com\/2014\/11\/05\/liberals-lose-it-show-they-are-the-real-racists-with-their-reaction-to-wins-by-tim-scott-and-mia-love\/', 'calling Democrats \u201cthe real racists\u201d ']);\" >calling Democrats \u201cthe real racists\u201d <\/a>or by suggesting that abortion is \u201cracist\u201d because blacks and Hispanics <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/hispanic-family-values-national-review-says-ending-birthright-citizenship-will-cause-abortions\">disproportionately choose to have the procedur<\/a>e. And in contrast to opposition to abortion or strident support for Israel,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u2026the cuckservative feels uncomfortable about issues like immigration. If the cuckservative is not an outright open-borders shill, he will only give lip service about \u201csecuring the border\u201d or \u201copposing illegal but favoring legal immigration\u201d but he will never talk about immigration very much. After all, immigration has very serious implications for Western Civilization, so it doesn\u2019t concern the cuckservative.<\/p>\n<p>[<a href=\"http:\/\/www.radixjournal.com\/blog\/2015\/7\/16\/cuckservative-a-definition\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.radixjournal.com\/blog\/2015\/7\/16\/cuckservative-a-definition', '&#8220;Cuckservative,&#8221; A Definition']);\" ><em>&#8220;Cuckservative,&#8221; A Definition<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> July 16, 2015]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After inquiring why people called him a \u201ccuckservative,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/?s=RedState++Erickson+&amp;submit=Find\">RedState\u2019s Erick Erickson <\/a>stumbled upon the <em>Radix Journal<\/em> article and described it as \u201ca slur against Christian voters coined by white-supremacists.\u201d Erickson doubled down on this interpretation without finding a single quote from anti-cuckservative activists critical of Christianity. Instead he cited various quotes like &#8220;anyone voting to destroy Christian lands by importing or breeding a horde of hostile minorities is a cuckold&#8221; and &#8220;you&#8217;re like Esau selling his birthright for a bowl of pottage&#8221; as proof of anti-Christian animus. [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.redstate.com\/2015\/07\/29\/cuckservative-is-a-racist-slur-and-an-attack-on-evangelical-christians\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.redstate.com\/2015\/07\/29\/cuckservative-is-a-racist-slur-and-an-attack-on-evangelical-christians\/', '\u201cCuckservative\u201d is a Racist Slur and an Attack on Evangelical Christians']);\" >\u201c<em>Cuckservative\u201d is a Racist Slur and an Attack on Evangelical Christians<\/em><\/a>, July 29, 2015]<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Daily Caller<\/em>\u2019s Matt Lewis was at least capable of looking up <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cuckold\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cuckold', 'cuckold on Wikipedia']);\" >cuckold on Wikipedia<\/a> and wrote,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A cuckold, of course, is a legitimate word for the husband of an adulterous wife \u2014 but that doesn\u2019t really do justice to what they\u2019re suggesting here, either. The people who throw this term around are most likely referencing a type of pornography whereby a (usually, white) man is \u201chumiliated\u201d (or ironically thrilled) by being forced to watch his wife having sex with another (usually, black) man.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lewis argued that his critics believed that \u201cby supporting immigration reform, criminal justice reform, etc., a white conservative is therefore surrendering his honor and masculinity (and it won\u2019t be long before his women folk are compromised, as well!).\u201d [<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2015\/07\/23\/whats-behind-the-cuckservative-slur-nsfw\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2015\/07\/23\/whats-behind-the-cuckservative-slur-nsfw\/', 'What\u2019s Behind The \u2018Cuckservative\u2019 Slur?']);\" ><em>What\u2019s Behind The \u2018Cuckservative\u2019 Slur?<\/em><\/a>, July 23, 2015]<\/p>\n<p>This prompted the same Leftists who enthusiastically embraced much more vulgar terms like \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/theweek.com\/articles\/494697\/evolution-word-tea-bagger\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/theweek.com\/articles\/494697\/evolution-word-tea-bagger', 'Teabagger']);\" >Teabagger<\/a>\u201d pompously to psychoanalyze the supposed sexual insecurities of \u201cwhite supremacists\u201d. For example, Buzzfeed noted that the point was to allude \u201cto a genre of porn in which passive white husbands watch their wives have sex with black men, it casts its targets as impotent defenders of white people in America.\u201d [Joseph Bernstein, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/josephbernstein\/behind-the-racist-hashtag-some-donald-trump-fans-love#.mxZzkAkVL\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/josephbernstein\/behind-the-racist-hashtag-some-donald-trump-fans-love#.mxZzkAkVL', 'Behind The Racist Hashtag That Is Blowing Up Twitter,']);\" >Behind The Racist Hashtag That Is Blowing Up Twitter,<\/a><\/em> July 27, 2015] Mediaite said the users of the word were both \u201cracist\u201d and \u201csexually anxious.\u201d [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/online\/trump-fans-target-mike-cuckabee-for-being-a-cuckservative\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/online\/trump-fans-target-mike-cuckabee-for-being-a-cuckservative\/', 'Trump Fans Target \u2018Mike Cuckabee\u2019 for Being a \u2018Cuckservative,\u2019 ']);\" ><em>Trump Fans Target \u2018Mike Cuckabee\u2019 for Being a \u2018Cuckservative,\u2019 <\/em><\/a>By Tommy Christopher, July 29, 2015] <em>The New Republic<\/em> did the most psychoanalyzing of the joke:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>the term <em>cuckservative<\/em> is popular because it pushes psycho-sexual hot buttons. Racism and sexism have always been connected, with one of the prime justifications for racial hierarchy being the supposed need to protect white women from black men and also, more implicitly, to keep black women sexually submissive to white men. A cuckservative thus conjures up one of the supreme nightmares of the white supremacist imagination, the fear that white men will assume a submissive role (or position) in the sexual hierarchy.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newrepublic.com\/article\/122372\/conservatives-are-holding-conversation-about-race\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.newrepublic.com\/article\/122372\/conservatives-are-holding-conversation-about-race', 'Conservatives Are Holding a Conversation About Race,']);\" >Conservatives Are Holding a Conversation About Race,<\/a><\/em> By Jeet Heer, July 26, 2015<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/daily-callers-matt-lewis-promotes-zuckerberg-attack-on-triangulating-immigration-organizations\">Matt Lewis<\/a> became completely unhinged in the <em>Daily Beast<\/em>, describing his twitter antagonists as \u201cevil and primitive.\u201d Even worse, many of them \u201chave <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/first-they-came-for-the-confederate-battle-flag-then-they-came-for-the-american-flag-in-fact-they-already-have-done\">Confederate flag<\/a> avatars&#8221;! After this preening, Lewis got to his point.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I think it\u2019s fair to say that we on the center-right have been defending ourselves and our movement against charges of racism for so long that we\u2019ve forgotten that, well, our side has some racists&#8230;whereas they were once confined to the nether regions of the Internet, now Twitter allows them to spread their pernicious message, and Trump has given them a candidate to get behind.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lewis then declared his goal to purge them: \u201cI can\u2019t police the left, but my hope in writing this is to sound the alarm on the right.\u201d [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2015\/07\/28\/twitter-s-right-wing-civil-war.html\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2015\/07\/28\/twitter-s-right-wing-civil-war.html', 'Twitter\u2019s Right-Wing Civil War']);\" ><em>Twitter\u2019s Right-Wing Civil War<\/em><\/a>, July 28, 2015].<\/p>\n<p>Yet unlike the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/radio-derb-is-on-the-air-15\">past victims <\/a>of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/the-fulford-file-the-curse-of-stein-and-the-daily-caller-s-neil-munro\">would-be right wing excommunicators,<\/a> Lewis\u2019s targets are largely anonymous and independent. Rather than marginalizing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/john-derbyshire-on-the-dissident-right-s-role-in-producing-hate-facts\">Dissident Right<\/a>, he and his other cuckservative allies have merely given it more attention.<\/p>\n<p>And not all the attention has been un-objective. Dave Weigel of the Washington Post just published a piece that gave <em>Radix Journal<\/em> Editor Richard Spencer an opportunity to explain the insult in an intelligent and reasonable manner:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The &#8216;cuck&#8217; slur is vulgar, yes, but then piercingly accurate. It is the cuckold who, whether knowingly or unknowingly, loses control of his future. This is an apt psychological portrait of white &#8216;conservatives,&#8217; whose only identity is comprised of vague, abstract &#8216;values,&#8217; and who are participating in the displacement of European Americans \u2014 their own children.<\/p>\n<p>[<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-fix\/wp\/2015\/07\/29\/cuckservative-the-conservative-insult-of-the-month-explained\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-fix\/wp\/2015\/07\/29\/cuckservative-the-conservative-insult-of-the-month-explained\/', '\u2018Cuckservative\u2019 \u2014 the conservative insult of the month, explained']);\" ><em>\u2018Cuckservative\u2019 \u2014 the conservative insult of the month, explained<\/em><\/a>, July 29, 2015]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Weigel also linked (!) to an American Renaissance article that explained: \u201cWhile cuckservatives claim to adhere to abstract principles, wiser men and women understand that ideology is often the echo of racial, cultural, and ethnic interests. And since cuckservatives no longer bother concealing they care nothing for their own white supporters, frustrated whites are looking for alternatives.\u201d [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amren.com\/news\/2015\/07\/what-is-a-cuckservative\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.amren.com\/news\/2015\/07\/what-is-a-cuckservative\/', 'What is a Cuckservative?']);\" ><em>What is a Cuckservative?<\/em><\/a> by Gregory Hood, July 24, 2015]<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, not all mainstream conservative outlets are following Lewis and Erickson\u2019s lead. While distancing himself from more of its extreme proponents, Milo Yiannopoulos defended the term in a lead Breitbart.com Op Ed, noting that<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>cuckservative memes are about GOP spinelessness on immigration, lies the political left tells about racism in America today, or simple frustration with the perceived limp-wristedness of the right-wing Establishment in the face of the vast left-wing smear machine.<\/p>\n<p>[<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2015\/07\/28\/cuckservative-is-a-gloriously-effective-insult-that-should-not-be-slurred-demonised-or-ridiculed\/\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2015\/07\/28\/cuckservative-is-a-gloriously-effective-insult-that-should-not-be-slurred-demonised-or-ridiculed\/', '\u2018Cuckservative\u2019 Is a Gloriously Effective Insult That Should Not Be Slurred, Demonized, or Ridiculed']);\" ><em>\u2018Cuckservative\u2019 Is a Gloriously Effective Insult That Should Not Be Slurred, Demonized, or Ridiculed<\/em><\/a>, July 28, 2015]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Instead of marginalizing the Dissident Right, the cuckservatives have exposed hundreds of thousands, if not millions of conservatives to intelligently-expressed heterodox opinions that undermine Conservatism Inc.\u2019s basic premises and conceptualize it as a problem.
