I laugh when everyone gives their first names at a Jewish gathering except for chiropractors who are so insecure, they invariably introduce themselves as “Dr….”. They are the only group to do this. Real medical doctors don’t do this socially. Even when chiros are acquaintances of mine and I am just chatting with them, they might well call themselves Dr. Smith or some such. <\/p>\n

Occasionally, I will meet insecure academics (who are not medical doctors) who introduce themselves as Dr. Smith etc.<\/p>\n
* Nice lady in line at Ralphs says to me tonight: “You should go ahead of me.”
\nI look at her cart and protest: “But I’ve got more stuff.”
\nLady: “I’ve got slipped discs in my neck. I need to wait for someone to help me.”
\nLuke: “Here, let me help you.”
\nI stack her items from her cart to the checkout tray.
\nLuke: “Have you tried chiropractic?”
\nLady: “Yes, but it’s expensive.”
\nWhen I finish stacking her items, I say: “I teach the Alexander Technique. It might help.”
