I’m reading an Atlantic article<\/a> and the following stuck out to me: “For Jews in particular, it’s usually assumed that Israel is a decisive factor in influencing voters’ decisions.”<\/p>\n

It is taken for granted by the conventional wisdom that Jews in America vote on what is good for the Jewish state, but most American Jews don’t care much about Israel. <\/p>\n

Stephen Steinlight wrote in 2001<\/a>: “That America has largely tolerated this dual loyalty \u2014 we get a free pass, I suspect, largely over Christian guilt about the Holocaust \u2014 makes it no less a reality.”<\/p>\n

The article concludes: “But it may be that, as a people as much as a voting bloc, Jews are becoming less influenced by their Jewishness.”<\/p>\n
