She attempted to back up this claim by equat\u00ading Ebola patients with unac\u00adcom\u00adpa\u00adnied minors flee\u00ading vio\u00adlence in Cen\u00adtral Amer\u00adi\u00adcan and seek\u00ading refuge in the United States, claim\u00ading both are try\u00ading \u201cto take advan\u00adtage\u201d of U.S. bor\u00adder pol\u00adicy. Vaughan has made prior big\u00adoted state\u00adments about immi\u00adgrants. In 2008 Vaughan claimed, \u201cOne legacy of TPS (Tem\u00adpo\u00adrary Pro\u00adtected Sta\u00adtus for refugees) has been its con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtion to the bur\u00adgeon\u00ading street gang prob\u00adlem in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vaughan\u2019s col\u00adleague, Mark Kriko\u00adrian<\/a>, con\u00adtin\u00adued the argu\u00adment in a col\u00adumn for National Review Online, titled, \u201cBan Travel from Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea\u2014Now.\u201d In the col\u00adumn, Kriko\u00adrian again voiced his oppo\u00adsi\u00adtion to Mus\u00adlim immi\u00adgra\u00adtion to the United States, stat\u00ading, \u201cWhy has the gov\u00adern\u00adment per\u00admit\u00adted the num\u00adber of Saudi immi\u00adgrants in the U.S. to dou\u00adble in just three years?\u2026 Why are we going to \u2018greatly expand reset\u00adtle\u00adment for Syr\u00adian refugees\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n

Anti-immigrant extrem\u00adists also used the Ebola news as an oppor\u00adtu\u00adnity to call for a reduc\u00adtion to immi\u00adgra\u00adtion. In an Octo\u00adber 1 arti\u00adcle, Patrick Cle\u00adburne, a writer for the racist web\u00adsite VDARE<\/a> founded by white suprema\u00adcist Peter Brimelow<\/a>, stated, \u201cMy own ques\u00adtion: why does Amer\u00adica need immi\u00adgra\u00adtion from this famously unhealthy part of the world any\u00adway?\u201d Cle\u00adburne ended his arti\u00adcle by claim\u00ading the U.S. needs to revisit the Immi\u00adgra\u00adtion and Nation\u00adal\u00adity Act of 1965, which abol\u00adished racial quo\u00adtas con\u00adtained in pre\u00advi\u00adous immi\u00adgra\u00adtion laws. Also on Octo\u00adber 1, the Tea Party Immi\u00adgra\u00adtion Coali\u00adtion<\/a> headed by racist Rick Olt\u00adman<\/a> posted an arti\u00adcle on its Face\u00adbook page about Ebola ask\u00ading, \u201cIs this how Obama will kill us?\u201d<\/p>\n

The anti-immigrant move\u00adment often paints immi\u00adgrants as dis\u00adease car\u00adri\u00aders<\/a> in an attempt to cre\u00adate a cli\u00admate of fear around the issue and call for a restric\u00adtion on immi\u00adgra\u00adtion. Attempt\u00ading to cap\u00adi\u00adtal\u00adize of the recent Ebola diag\u00adno\u00adsis is the lat\u00adest exam\u00adple of this trend.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
