{"id":58667,"date":"2014-10-04T20:59:06","date_gmt":"2014-10-05T04:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=58667"},"modified":"2014-10-04T20:59:06","modified_gmt":"2014-10-05T04:59:06","slug":"as-israel-is-the-jewish-state-are-shuls-rational-targets-for-those-who-dont-like-israel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=58667","title":{"rendered":"As Israel is the Jewish state, are shuls rational targets for those who don&#8217;t like Israel?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I find <A HREF=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gilad_Atzmon\">this challenging<\/a>: &#8220;In 2004 the Board of Deputies of British Jews criticized [Gilad] Atzmon for saying, &#8220;I&#8217;m not going to say whether it is right or not to burn down a synagogue, I can see that it is a <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/education\/2005\/may\/12\/highereducation.raceineducation\">rational act<\/a>.&#8221; Atzmon <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/news\/2005\/apr\/24\/letters.theobserver\">responded<\/a> in a letter to The Observer that &#8220;since Israel presents itself as the &#8216;state of the Jewish people\u2019 &#8230; any form of anti-Jewish activity may be seen as political retaliation. This does not make it right.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Almost every synagogue has a security guard out front, and during Jewish holidays such as Yom Kippur, there&#8217;s usually an increase in security.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve never been to a church where there were security guards out front and metal detectors to pass through. <\/p>\n<p>Whenever Israel is in conflict, I notice an increase in security at shuls.
