{"id":58310,"date":"2014-09-29T18:01:12","date_gmt":"2014-09-30T02:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=58310"},"modified":"2014-10-25T19:02:35","modified_gmt":"2014-10-26T03:02:35","slug":"breakaway-minyan-from-pacific-jewish-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=58310","title":{"rendered":"Breakaway Minyan From Pacific Jewish Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hear the old guard (the <A HREF=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Daniel_Lapin\">Rabbi Daniel Lapin<\/a> crowd) broke away from the <A HREF=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pacific_Jewish_Center\">Pacific Jewish Center<\/a> (which owns about five million dollars worth of real estate, debt-free) and started their own minyan in their own space with their own rabbi on Rosh Hashanah, reducing PJC&#8217;s numbers by about a third. PJC was one of the first shuls I attended in LA. It&#8217;s located on the Venice boardwalk and I have many wonderful memories of the place. Its rabbi <A HREF=\"http:\/\/finkorswim.com\/about-2\/\">Eliyahu Fink<\/a> is among the three most active Orthodox rabbis on FB. He graduated from Loyola Law School a few years ago but has yet to pass the California bar. <\/p>\n<p>Rabbi Fink blogs regularly about controversial issues such as why people leave Orthodox Judaism. In one post, he <A HREF=\"ttp:\/\/finkorswim.com\/2014\/09\/10\/cultivating-positive-orthodox-jewish-experiences\/#sthash.v1trjAqc.dpuf\">writes<\/a>: &#8220;My theory is that belief in God and Torah m\u2019Sinai is not the primary factor in one\u2019s choice to join, abandon, or remain in Orthodox Judaism.
