In 12-step rooms, you often hear the adage that “addiction is a progressive disease.”<\/p>\n

I’ve never hit rock bottom in the manner of many addicts. I’ve never tried suicide, I’ve never been arrested, I’ve never done crimes, but I am familiar with the despair of the addict who’s desperately seeking a fix and can never get enough. My drugs were not illegal. They were not alcohol. They were unhealthy relationships<\/a> with women, with food, with gambling. They were emotional addictions that were stunting my growth. <\/p>\n
