{"id":55602,"date":"2014-06-10T01:23:33","date_gmt":"2014-06-10T09:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=55602"},"modified":"2014-06-10T01:26:44","modified_gmt":"2014-06-10T09:26:44","slug":"why-does-israel-protect-its-borders-but-america-doesnt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=55602","title":{"rendered":"Why Does Israel Protect Its Borders But America Doesn&#8217;t?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.americanthinker.com\/2014\/06\/where_is_americas_sense_of_selfpreservation_.html\">John Bennett writes for American Thinker<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">Many Western nations are restricting immigration because of popular anger at the unwelcome changes brought about by mass immigration. &nbsp;America seems to be the rare country with the misfortune of having politicians who won&rsquo;t stand up for citizens.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">How many nations around the world have to be thrown into crisis and division for us to learn that mass immigration is not always a positive? &nbsp;Israel, Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Norway are just a few of the Western nations that energetically guard their territorial integrity, and some party leaders in those countries openly explain why they do so.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\"><strong>Israel&rsquo;s &ldquo;smart fence&rdquo; protects &ldquo;the character of the country&rdquo; &nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">When faced with a massive influx of African immigrants, PM Benjamin Netanyahu said in 2011, &ldquo;This growing wave threatens Israelis&rsquo; jobs, is changing the character of the country <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/flow-of-african-migrants-poses-dilemma-for-israel\/2011\/04\/14\/AFsxuyjD_story.html\">and we must stop it<\/a>.&rdquo; &nbsp;That is what any true leader would say, if he or she desired to protect and preserve the concept of national identity.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">Over the last several years, an inflow of illegal aliens from Africa led to major tensions within Israel over what to do about illegal immigration. &nbsp;In Tel Aviv in 2012, a crisis of rising crime, disorder, and rape infuriated locals, and many saw the crisis as being brought on by the illegal aliens, called &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jpost.com\/Opinion\/Op-Ed-Contributors\/Illegal-infiltration-to-Israel-Its-the-economy-stupid-337406\">illegal infiltrators<\/a>&rdquo; in Israel. &nbsp;Over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/middleeast\/israel\/9287715\/Israeli-anti-immigration-riots-hit-African-neighbourhood-of-Tel-Aviv.html\">1,000 local citizens<\/a> demonstrated against what they saw as uninvited infiltrators, carrying signs that read: &ldquo;Return them now,&rdquo; and &ldquo;If we keep silent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/flow-of-african-migrants-poses-dilemma-for-israel\/2011\/04\/14\/AFsxuyjD_story.html\">we will become strangers<\/a> in our own neighborhoods.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">The Tel Aviv protests intensified after several horrendous rapes. &nbsp;In one, two African migrants were arrested for raping a <a href=\"http:\/\/forward.com\/articles\/156804\/israeli-anger-over-african-crime-wave\/?p=all\">15-year-old<\/a>, while a third held the victim&rsquo;s boyfriend. &nbsp;Several months later, demonstrations followed the rape of an 83-year-old Israeli woman. &nbsp;The elderly woman, said police, &ldquo;was raped and beaten for hours in the courtyard of her apartment building near the central bus station in south Tel Aviv by a young Eritrean migrant,&rdquo; according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jpost.com\/National-News\/Anti-migrant-march-follows-arrest-in-rape-case\"><em>Jerusalem Post<\/em><\/a>. &nbsp;Police were able to trace the assailant&rsquo;s DNA because he had a prior arrest for trying to steal a woman&rsquo;s bag.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">Seventy-year-old Sophie Menashe of Tel Aviv reportedly says, &ldquo;South Tel Aviv is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/south-tel-aviv-is-south-sudan-now\/\">South Sudan now<\/a>. It&rsquo;s no longer Tel Aviv[.] &#8230; And I&rsquo;m scared all the time.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">Israel&rsquo;s immigration and border protection policy is not simply based in security concerns. &nbsp;Issues of crime and cultural cohesion also play a large role in shaping Israel&rsquo;s approach to immigration. &nbsp;That approach has included the construction of a sophisticated barrier fence, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/middle_east\/israels-crackdown-on-illegal-african-migrants-draws-critics\/2012\/11\/02\/70687de2-2469-11e2-9313-3c7f59038d93_story.html\">aggressive deportation<\/a>, and the use of the military to protect the border. &nbsp;The Israeli military has, over the last several years, turned away huge numbers of African asylum seekers, mostly from Eritrea and Sudan, at the border. &nbsp;The Israeli army position is that it will act to &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/middle_east\/israels-crackdown-on-illegal-african-migrants-draws-critics\/2012\/11\/02\/70687de2-2469-11e2-9313-3c7f59038d93_story.html\">prevent illegal infiltration<\/a>&rdquo; as per &ldquo;directives from the political echelon.&rdquo; &nbsp;Also, the Israeli cabinet <a href=\"http:\/\/forward.com\/articles\/188309\/israel-will-pay-africans--each-to-leave\/\">devotes resources<\/a> to enforce the law against illegal aliens and their employers.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">Israel protects its border, motivated in part by an awareness of the great civilizational importance of national boundaries. &nbsp;&ldquo;Just like the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/middle_east\/with-golan-fence-israel-closer-to-surrounding-itself-with-barriers\/2013\/06\/06\/0b91768a-c3ab-11e2-914f-a7aba60512a7_story.html\">Chinese protected themselves<\/a> and defended themselves with the Great Wall,&rdquo; PM Netanyahu says, &ldquo;so we will continue to defend ourselves on the southern border, the Golan Heights and on all fronts.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times,serif;\">How, and why, has Israel enacted an effective border strategy, while we have not?
