{"id":43947,"date":"2012-06-01T12:42:07","date_gmt":"2012-06-01T20:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=43947"},"modified":"2012-06-01T12:43:53","modified_gmt":"2012-06-01T20:43:53","slug":"laughter-vs-embarrassment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=43947","title":{"rendered":"Laughter Vs Embarrassment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was at this Jewish event one Friday night in Pico-Robertson circa 1995 and I thought I was being terribly amusing because people were laughing.<\/p>\n<p>The organizer pulled me aside and said I was being inappropriate. &#8220;But they were laughing,&#8221; I said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They were laughing out of embarrassment,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>That took me aback. I hadn&#8217;t thought of that.<\/p>\n<p>I was reading <A HREF=\"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=43883\">one of my brilliant stories<\/a> the other night and my teacher suggested that when my therapist pealed off into a fit of uncontrollable giggles, she might&#8217;ve been laughing out of embarrassment, not amusement.<\/p>\n<p>I think I&#8217;m terribly amusing, but much of the time I&#8217;m just embarrassing. I see my behavior as grand when really it is beneath contempt.
