{"id":438,"date":"2007-07-10T09:19:02","date_gmt":"2007-07-10T16:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=438"},"modified":"2007-12-08T23:18:24","modified_gmt":"2007-12-09T06:06:24","slug":"mayors-mistress-donated-to-rival-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=438","title":{"rendered":"Mayor&#8217;s Mistress Donated to Rival Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ktla.com\/news_custom_eric\/2007\/07\/mayors-mistress.html\">Eric Spillman writes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Telemundo newscaster Mirthala Salinas, the love interest of Mayor Villaraigosa, once made a campaign contribution to his political opponent.<\/p>\n<p>Records confirm that in March of 2001 Salinas gave $250 to Xavier Becerra, who at that time was running against Antonio Villaraigosa for mayor.<\/p>\n<p>Becerra spokesman Steve Haro says the newscaster attended a fundraiser at a Mexican restaurant, and then wrote a check to the candidate.<\/p>\n<p>How&#8217;s that for checkbook journalism?<\/p>\n<p>Haro says the two were &quot;absolutely not&quot; romantically involved.  He says Becerra&#8217;s only contact with Salinas was &quot;in an official and professional capacity.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Most news media outlets have policies forbidding reporters from donating to political campaigns, for obvious reasons.&nbsp; &nbsp;And Salinas was KVEA&#8217;s political correspondent!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><!--adsense--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eric Spillman writes: Telemundo newscaster Mirthala Salinas, the love interest of Mayor Villaraigosa, once made a campaign contribution to his political opponent.
