Galen is also a Professor of Architecture at the University of California and the author of <em><A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Chair-Rethinking-Culture-Design\/dp\/0393319555\">The Chair: Rethinking Culture, Body and Design<\/a><\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Galen: &#8220;I noticed that most of the English teachers said, &#8216;Let your head go forward and up, dear.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Then I got introduced to ideas in <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.originalosteopathy.com\/osteopathy\/index.html\">cranial-osteopathy<\/a> and that the bones in the head move. You can float them apart on the <A HREF=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dura_mater\">dura<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I began to think about taking the <A HREF=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Occipital_bone\">occipital bone<\/a> back and up and let the frontal bone release forward and up. If you allow the opposition between these bones, uprightness is a byproduct.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<A HREF=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cerebrospinal_fluid\">Cerebral spinal fluid<\/a> doesn&#8217;t have a heart to pump it. It has to rely on the movement of flexion and extension.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Robert: &#8220;When I was training, I don&#8217;t remember anyone saying anything other than &#8216;the head&#8217;, as though it was a solid unit.
