Are there or have there been great Torah scholars who are gay or bi or never married?<\/p>\n

Marc B. Shapiro says: “There must have been great Torah scholars who were gay or bisexual, but this is not the sort of thing you can ever be specific about if the people themselves don’t talk about it. But these men would still have been married as every Jew was expected to get married. These great Torah scholars, while they might have been gay, would not have been active homosexuals. I.e., they would have followed halakhah. It is very difficult to find a great Torah scholar who never married, as having children is an obligation.
