F. Bruce\">F. F. LaRondelle<\/a>) of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Christian_perfection\" title=\"Christian perfection\">perfectionism<\/a> taught by fellow Australian <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Brinsmead\" title=\"Robert Brinsmead\">Robert Brinsmead<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Schwarz_9-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-Schwarz-9\" title=\"\">[10]<\/a><\/sup> According to Anglican <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Geoffrey_Paxton\" title=\"Geoffrey Paxton\">Geoffrey Paxton<\/a>, during the 1960s scholars such as Ford and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_Heppenstall\" title=\"Edward Heppenstall\">Edward Heppenstall<\/a> embedded the concept of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Original_sin\" title=\"Original sin\">original sin<\/a> into <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seventh-day_Adventist_theology\" title=\"Seventh-day Adventist theology\">Adventist theology<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Shaking6_7-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-Shaking6-7\" title=\"\">[8]<\/a><\/sup> Paxton also wrote that Des &quot;showed a praiseworthy consistency in Reformation theology during a period of change&quot;<sup id=\"cite_ref-Shaking6_7-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-Shaking6-7\" title=\"\">[8]<\/a><\/sup> in that he &quot;strongly repudiated perfectionism as being contrary to the gospel&quot;,<sup id=\"cite_ref-Shaking6_7-3\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-Shaking6-7\" title=\"\">[8]<\/a><\/sup> and held to the Protestant views of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Justification_%28theology%29\" title=\"Justification (theology)\">justification<\/a> and the sinlessness of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jesus\" title=\"Jesus\">Jesus<\/a>&#8216; human nature (see: <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Christology\" title=\"Christology\">Christology<\/a>).<sup id=\"cite_ref-Shaking6_7-4\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-Shaking6-7\" title=\"\">[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Under Ford&#8217;s influence, Brinsmead ultimately rejected perfectionism.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Land_1-3\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-Land-1\" title=\"\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> Around 1970, there was a major controversy amongst Australian Adventists over whether &quot;righteousness by faith&quot; included both <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Justification_%28theology%29\" title=\"Justification (theology)\">justification<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sanctification\" title=\"Sanctification\">sanctification<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Land_1-4\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-Land-1\" title=\"\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> This had been sparked by Brinsmead, and Ford became caught up in it.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Land_1-5\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-Land-1\" title=\"\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> Tensions over Ford and the theology teaching at Avondale more generally led to a meeting of Australian church leaders on February 3&ndash;4, 1976 to hear accusations by a group of &quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Concerned_Brethren\" title=\"Concerned Brethren\" class=\"mw-redirect\">Concerned Brethren<\/a>&quot;. While intended as only an internal document, some copies were more widely circulated, receiving a mixed response.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Tensions_29-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-Tensions-29\" title=\"\">[30]<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-30\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-30\" title=\"\">[31]<\/a><\/sup> The Adventist church leadership decided to keep the ban on Ford speaking in churches.<\/p>\n<p>Ford has three children &ndash; El&egrave;nne,<sup id=\"cite_ref-31\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-31\" title=\"\">[32]<\/a><\/sup> Paul, and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Luke_Ford\" title=\"Luke Ford\">Luke<\/a> &ndash; the last of whom controversially converted to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Judaism\" title=\"Judaism\">Judaism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ford&#8217;s work on apocalyptic has been quoted by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/F._F._Bruce\" title=\"F. F. Bruce\">F. F. Bruce<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=G._R._Beasley-Murray&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\" title=\"G. R. Beasley-Murray (page does not exist)\" class=\"new\">G. R. Beasley-Murray<\/a> and other scholars, and also in such reference works as <em>The New <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Merrill_Unger\" title=\"Merrill Unger\">Unger<\/a>&#8216;s Bible Dictionary<\/em> and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Baker_Encyclopedia_of_the_Bible&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\" title=\"Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible (page does not exist)\" class=\"new\">Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"Present_beliefs\" id=\"Present_beliefs\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"editsection\">[<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Desmond_Ford&amp;action=edit&amp;section=9\" title=\"Edit section: Present beliefs\">edit<\/a>]<\/span> <span class=\"mw-headline\">Present beliefs<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>According to one of his websites, Ford&#8217;s interests include religion, history, current affairs, biography, science, and health.<sup id=\"cite_ref-bio_2-15\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-bio-2\" title=\"\">[3]<\/a><\/sup> He has always been an avid reader.<sup id=\"cite_ref-bio_2-16\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-bio-2\" title=\"\">[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Ford still supports the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sabbath_in_Seventh-day_Adventism\" title=\"Sabbath in Seventh-day Adventism\">Sabbath<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-32\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-32\" title=\"\">[33]<\/a><\/sup> He published <em>The Forgotten Day<\/em> defending the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sabbath_in_Seventh-day_Adventism\" title=\"Sabbath in Seventh-day Adventism\">Sabbath<\/a>, as a result of his study following <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Brinsmead\" title=\"Robert Brinsmead\">Robert Brinsmead<\/a>&#8216;s writings against it.<sup id=\"cite_ref-33\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-33\" title=\"\">[34]<\/a><\/sup> Another former Adventist <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dale_Ratzlaff\" title=\"Dale Ratzlaff\">Dale Ratzlaff<\/a> wrote a critical book <em>Sabbath in Crisis<\/em> (now <em>Sabbath in Christ<\/em>), which Ford responded to in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodnewsunlimited.org\/library\/sabbathincrisis\/desbookreview.cfm\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"http:\/\/www.goodnewsunlimited.org\/library\/sabbathincrisis\/desbookreview.cfm\" class=\"external text\">book review<\/a>, to which Ratzlaff <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodnewsunlimited.org\/library\/sabbathincrisis\/daleresponse1.cfm\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"http:\/\/www.goodnewsunlimited.org\/library\/sabbathincrisis\/daleresponse1.cfm\" class=\"external text\">responded<\/a> in turn.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>Adventist Today<\/em> in an interview with Ford in summer 1999,<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>&quot;Almost two decades have passed since Dr. Ford took his courageous stand for the Gospel. Since that time, it has become obvious that Dr. Ford&rsquo;s teachings have led many Christians to a better understanding of personal salvation and the Scripture. In fact, many within the Seventh-day Adventist church have adopted his view of the Gospel and his advanced position on the Investigative Judgment. Although it has been almost two decades since Dr. Ford has been exiled from the Denomination, he is still a Seventh-day Adventist who personally supports a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vegetarianism\" title=\"Vegetarianism\">vegetarian<\/a> lifestyle as well as such fundamental doctrines as the seventh day Sabbath, Second Coming, Judgment, state-of-the-dead, new earth, etc.&quot;<sup id=\"cite_ref-interview_6-8\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-interview-6\" title=\"\">[7]<\/a><\/sup><\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p>Ford is a vegetarian and has been a vocal advocate of healthy living and preventative medicine.<sup id=\"cite_ref-34\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Ford#cite_note-34\" title=\"\">[35]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>He maintains that Ellen White did have the spiritual gift of prophecy, stating in 1980, &quot;&#8230;I found Christ through the writings of Ellen G.
