I’ve been to seven twelve-step meetings and heard dozens of shares. Many of them suck.<\/p>\n

Here are the qualities of a good share — honesty and a lack of jargon.<\/p>\n

A share is not the time to cite philosophers and psychologists and to use your amateur psychological skills to explain your life. Instead, share the most difficult, painful and embarrassing parts of your struggles with addiction and, if true, share how you turned things around. Use your own words. Don’t quote Guru Ram Dass.<\/p>\n

And pay attention to the time. Don’t steal time. If you have two minutes to share or 15 minutes, do not go over.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
