{"id":31248,"date":"2011-03-24T12:54:04","date_gmt":"2011-03-24T20:54:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=31248"},"modified":"2011-03-24T12:54:04","modified_gmt":"2011-03-24T20:54:04","slug":"how-to-spot-the-orthodox-from-birth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=31248","title":{"rendered":"How To Spot The Orthodox From Birth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re talking FFBs (Frum From Birth).<\/p>\n<p><A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.frumsatire.net\/2011\/03\/24\/how-to-spot-ffbs\/#more-9598\">Heshy Fried writes about how he spots FFBs in the San Francisco Bay Area<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>They come into shul late and immediately daven mincha without a siddur or saying ashrei first.<\/p>\n<p>They go through a whole shabbos lunch without touching their napkin, let alone placing it on their lap right after washing.<\/p>\n<p>If entering shul during kedusha, they stop right in their tracks rather than walking to their seat<\/p>\n<p>They mutter ya\u2019ale vayavo out loud to remind everyone around them to say it<\/p>\n<p>They jump for joy at the sight of moscato diasti in a blue bottle (especially in the Bay where everyone is into wine and it\u2019s hard to eat a table with cruddy stuff)<\/p>\n<p>They say something non-politically correct out loud (BT\u2019s are hush-hush about stuff like eating non-organically grown rice)<\/p>\n<p>They serve soda at their meals.<\/p>\n<p>They call junk food \u2013 nosh!<\/p>\n<p>They are talking during shul, learning during laining and always looking at whoever comes in. (they are bored)<\/p>\n<p>They are comfortable enough to pace back forth in the back of the shul during davening (such a hocker thing to do)<\/p>\n<p>They say things like \u201cour minhag is\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They don\u2019t have PhD\u2019s (it seems like everyone else does)<\/p>\n<p>They don\u2019t eat vegetables \u2013 beyond potatoes (unless they are modern orthodox or something).<\/p>\n<p>They serve cake at the main meal and call it kugel.<\/p>\n<p>They never say chavorai when benching with a mezumen. (it\u2019s very un-PC not to include the ladies you know)<\/p>\n<p>They clop the bimah when something extra needs to be said (In some of the BT filled shuls no one does it)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re talking FFBs (Frum From Birth).
