{"id":28853,"date":"2011-01-19T19:41:06","date_gmt":"2011-01-20T03:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=28853"},"modified":"2011-01-19T20:12:29","modified_gmt":"2011-01-20T04:12:29","slug":"yisroel-pensack-british-prime-minister-proposes-health-system-overhaul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=28853","title":{"rendered":"Yisroel Pensack: Prime Minister Proposes English Health Care System Overhaul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/01\/20\/world\/europe\/20britain.html?hp&amp;pagewanted=all\">article<\/a> by Sarah Lyall in The New York Times:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>LONDON \u2014 Prime Minister <a title=\"More articles about David Cameron.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/people\/c\/david_cameron\/index.html?inline=nyt-per\">David  Cameron<\/a> on Wednesday proposed a radical reorganization of England\u2019s health  care system, introducing legislation that would hand responsibility for most of  the country\u2019s health budget to its 42,000 general practitioners and, his  political opponents say, open the door to private competition that could  threaten the foundations of socialized care.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Cameron argues that the bill, said to be the biggest overhaul of the  National Health Service since it was founded in 1948, is essential to increase  efficiency and allow doctors, patients and localities more control of how the  health budget is spent&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The [proposed] changes apply only to England; other parts of <a title=\"More news and information about United Kingdom.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/news\/international\/countriesandterritories\/unitedkingdom\/index.html?inline=nyt-geo\">Britain<\/a> have separate systems&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Economically, it&#8217;s been all downhill for the British for  100 years &#8212; since their ruling landlords undermined, subverted and eventually  jettisoned the (American Henry) Georgist-inspired land value tax provisions of the Lloyd George 1909  Budget Bill.
