We just launched the Jewish New Media Innovation Fund, a collaborative program offering a total of $500,000 in grants for digital media projects to promote vibrant and meaningful Jewish life in the 21st century.<\/p>\n
The Fund seeks proposals for projects that leverage new media
\ntools\u2014including video, digital communications, social networks, and
\nmore\u2014to empower Jews to interact with, share, build, and explore Jewish life.<\/p>\n

\nand Lynn Schusterman Family foundations announced today the
\nlaunch of the Jewish New Media Innovation Fund, a collaborative
\nprogram offering a total of $500,000 in grants for digital media
\nprojects that promote vibrant and meaningful Jewish life in the 21st
\ncentury.
\nThe Jewish New Media Innovation Fund (Fund) seeks proposals for
\nprojects that leverage new media tools\u2014including video, digital
\ncommunications, social networks, and more\u2014to empower Jews to
\ninteract with, share, build, and explore Jewish life.
\n\u201cEach generation has the opportunity to use the tools of their day to
\nengage with what it means to be fully Jewish and fully human in the
\nworld,\u201d said Rachel Levin, Associate Director of the Righteous
\nPersons Foundation. \u201cFor our generation, that toolbox includes digital
\nmedia as a way to access information, culture, and connection. Our
\nhope is that this Fund will help accelerate and strengthen the
\nexperimentation that is already happening in pockets around the
\ncountry.\u201d
\nThe Fund hopes to better understand how digital media can help
\npreserve Jewish history, renew Jewish traditions, and revitalize
\nJewish institutions. The Fund was launched as a collaborative effort
\namong the three foundations to better share what they learn with the
\nbroader Jewish community and philanthropic world.
\n\u201cBy partnering with these two highly accomplished and respected
\nfoundations, we believe we can leverage the power of philanthropy,
\ntechnology, and social networking to engage young people in leading
\nricher, more meaningful Jewish lives,\u201d said Sandy Cardin, president
\nof the Schusterman Family Foundation.
\n\u201cThe Jim Joseph Foundation is supporting entrepreneurial new media
\ntools focused on engaging young Jews in their identity and in Jewish
\neducation in the broadest terms,\u201d said Phyllis Cook, a member of the
\nJim Joseph Foundation Board of Directors.
\nIn this pilot year, the Fund is offering grants to individuals, non-profits,
\nsocial enterprises, and for-profit groups. Funding is available for both
\nstart-ups and established projects, where the grant will ensure the
\nlaunch of an existing concept or take an established project to the
\nnext level.
\nAn Advisory Board, consisting of experts in the fields of digital media,
\nJewish life, and youth engagement will select the winning proposals.
\nInterested parties must apply online. Proposals are due November
\n22, 2010. The announcement of awardees is expected in February
\n2011.
