{"id":2355,"date":"2008-02-27T18:12:23","date_gmt":"2008-02-28T02:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=2355"},"modified":"2008-02-28T15:50:40","modified_gmt":"2008-02-28T23:50:40","slug":"nearer-my-god-to-thee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=2355","title":{"rendered":"Nearer My God To Thee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My two favorite hymns are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BtE0Y6CTQMQ\">Nearer My God To Thee<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=q1okbQm4deQ\">Abide With Me<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m noticing a theme here &#8212; the closeness of God.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s so much easier to feel close to God in Christianity because you have Jesus and the whole religion is about dissolving yourself in Him and throwing yourself on Him and pleading for His love and mercy.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe that&#8217;s why I&#8217;m such a pathetic lover and the opposite of the Alpha male.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve rarely felt close to God. Most people relate to God like they do to their father and I have a distant but respectful relationship with both my dad and my God.<\/p>\n<p>Yet this wounded child within me yearns to be closer to both God and dad and that&#8217;s why I listen to Air Supply and hymns and blog about my feelings.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Tournier wrote a book called &quot;A Place For You.&quot; I didn&#8217;t particularly enjoy the book but I understood the theme &#8212; the human desire for a home.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve found my home in shul.<\/p>\n<p><!--adsense--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My two favorite hymns are Nearer My God To Thee and Abide With Me.
