Excerpt: Everyone agrees that Arizona has a huge illegal immigration problem. The government estimates nearly half a million illegal immigrants live in the state. My own research indicates that illegal immigrants account for one-third of state\u2019s population lacking health insurance.<\/p>\n

The state also spends roughly $2 billion a year on public education because of illegal immigration. Moreover, Americans who compete with illegal immigrants for jobs, those with no more than a high school education, have the highest rates of unemployment. In Arizona almost one in five of these less-educated Americans are out of work.<\/p>\n

The Center for Immigration Studies, based on an analysis of birth records, found that there are 380,000 births a year to illegal immigrant mothers – one out of 10 births. The Pew Hispanic Center analyzed a Census Bureau survey and estimated it was 340,000 a year, or one out of 12 births. Either way, the numbers are enormous. <\/p>\n
