It constitutes <a href=\"http:\/\/bibref.hebtools.com\/?book=%20Deuteronomy&amp;verse=11:26%E2%80%9316:17.&amp;src=HE\" class=\"external text\" rel=\"nofollow\">Deuteronomy 11:26\u201316:17.<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jew\" title=\"Jew\" class=\"mw-redirect\">Jews<\/a>  in the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jewish_diaspora\" title=\"Jewish diaspora\">Diaspora<\/a> generally read it in August or  early September.<\/p>\n<p>Jews read part of the parshah, <a href=\"http:\/\/bibref.hebtools.com\/?book=%20Deuteronomy&amp;verse=15:19%E2%80%9316:17,&amp;src=HE\" class=\"external text\" rel=\"nofollow\">Deuteronomy 15:19\u201316:17,<\/a> which  addresses the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shalosh_regalim\" title=\"Shalosh regalim\">Three Pilgrim Festivals<\/a> (<i>Shalosh Regalim<\/i>),  as the initial Torah reading on the eighth day of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Passover\" title=\"Passover\">Passover<\/a>  when it falls on a weekday and on the second day of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shavuot\" title=\"Shavuot\">Shavuot<\/a>  when it falls on a weekday. And Jews read a larger selection from the  same part of the parshah, <a href=\"http:\/\/bibref.hebtools.com\/?book=%20Deuteronomy&amp;verse=14:22%E2%80%9316:17,&amp;src=HE\" class=\"external text\" rel=\"nofollow\">Deuteronomy 14:22\u201316:17,<\/a> as  the initial Torah reading on the eighth day of Passover when it falls on  a Sabbath, on the second day of Shavuot when it falls on a Sabbath, and  on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shemini_Atzeret\" title=\"Shemini Atzeret\">Shemini Atzeret<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the parshah, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moses\" title=\"Moses\">Moses<\/a> set before the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Israelites\" title=\"Israelites\">Israelites<\/a>  the choice between <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blessing\" title=\"Blessing\">blessing<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Curse\" title=\"Curse\">curse<\/a>. Moses  instructed the Israelites in the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Law\" title=\"Law\">laws<\/a> that they  were to observe, including the law of a single, centralized place of  worship. Moses warned against following other gods and their <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prophet\" title=\"Prophet\">prophets<\/a>.  And Moses set forth laws of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kashrut\" title=\"Kashrut\">Kashrut<\/a>,  <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tithe\" title=\"Tithe\">tithes<\/a>,  the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shmita\" title=\"Shmita\">Sabbatical  year<\/a>, the Hebrew slave, firstborn animals, and the three pilgrim  festivals.<\/p>\n<p>(The first four minutes of
