Then, a minute later, an ad recommended HD lasik surgery, and another touted a soon-to-be released DVD in HD.<\/p>\n<p>Shows how behind the times I am &#8212; here I thought &quot;HD&quot; applied only to the new generation in television-screen technology. Apparently not!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.poynter.org\/column.asp?id=2&amp;aid=134537\">Here&#8217;s a report from Poynter<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Terri Gruca, WCCO-TV consumer reporter, told me about a new kind of gift card that is a sign of the times. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.givewell.com\/\">It is a health care gift card<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the things it may be used for are: Co-pays at doctors&#8217; offices and pharmacies; dental care, including braces and teeth whitening; vision care, including eye exams and prescription sunglasses; memberships at health clubs; and elective procedures, such as Lasik and cosmetic surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Terri points out that there are some downsides to the card: The card itself <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.givewell.com\/faq\/\">costs $4.95<\/a>, and $1.50 is deducted each month from the balance.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><!--adsense--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Beates writes: So while my wife and I were driving around one recent Sunday afternoon, we heard an advertisement on the radio touting the benefits of HD &#8212; high-definition &#8212; radio.
