{"id":16917,"date":"2010-02-16T10:09:10","date_gmt":"2010-02-16T18:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=16917"},"modified":"2010-06-06T19:15:43","modified_gmt":"2010-06-07T03:15:43","slug":"rabbi-adam-kligfeld-of-temple-beth-am","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=16917","title":{"rendered":"Rabbi Adam Kligfeld Of Temple Beth Am"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.tbala.org\/page.cfm?p=840\">The new rabbi at Beth Am<\/a>, a Conservative synagogue on La Cienega and Olympic Blvds, seems like a good fit.<\/p>\n<p>There was one hiccup for some congregants. <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.lukeford.net\/profiles\/profiles\/stephen_fried.htm\">The new rabbi<\/a>, who&#8217;s about 36 but looks 18, wants to be called &#8220;Rabbi Adam&#8221; or &#8220;Rabbi Kligfeld&#8221;, but not plain &#8220;Adam.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Many congregants were used to calling their previous rabbi, <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.jewsonfirst.org\/06a\/rembaum.html\">Joel Rembaum<\/a>, by the lofty title of &#8220;Joel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Joel Rembaum took over Beth Am when he was near 50. He&#8217;s tall. He doesn&#8217;t need to fight for gravitas.<\/p>\n<p>Rabbi Kligfeld is young. He&#8217;s short. He&#8217;s Rabbi Kligfeld or Rabbi Adam.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t like calling rabbis by their first name. For me it&#8217;s not &#8220;Rav Yosef.&#8221; It&#8217;s &#8220;Rabbi Kanefsky.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Your rabbi should not primarily be your friend. He should be your moral authority.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the way I roll.
