Dear Rob,<\/p>\n

As part of my ceaseless battle to protect your good name, I recently got into a dispute with a friend about the number of copies the Journal prints each week. I say it’s 75,000. He says 16,000<\/a>. Who’s right? <\/p>\n

He also blogged that you are a Trotskyite publication… I thought you were always more like Mao "Thousand Flowers Bloom" Ze Dong. Who’s right?<\/p>\n

The industry standard is the CVC number. Be wary of any paper that offers non-audited numbers.   Three years ago, the time of our last CVC audit, ours was 48,500.  Our next audit is in 2008.  With a bit of luck, we will be 100,000 by then– the largest in the country. That’s what we’re working very hard to achieve, and I believe we’ll do it. (Keep in mind there are about 150,000  Jewish households in greater LA, not all of them English-reading).<\/p>\n

Now we fluctuate around 60 K in fat times and 50 K in lean. Our return rate is between 3 and 4 percent– meaning between 3 and 4 percent of the papers we distribute come back (industry standard I’m told is 10 percent).<\/p>\n

Of course, when we put put you on the cover, even fewer came back….<\/p>\n

BTW, Brad Greenberg didn’t leave Judaism.  He was born and raised Christian.<\/p>\n

We never "lost" him — we just gained you.<\/p>\n

Whoever blogged that we’re Trotskyite made a typo.  They meant to say we’re "trusty."  Or they don’t read English.<\/p>\n
