Currently the RCA<\/a> accepts the determination of Israel’s Chief Sephardic Rabbi Shlomo Amar<\/a> about which conversions he will accept.<\/p>\n

I don’t expect the RCA<\/a> will change its approach as long as Rabbi Basil Herring<\/a> runs the show. He’s too weak. He’s clinging to his position. <\/p>\n

All the RCA would have to do to change the status quo is to threaten to launch a lawsuit to the Israel Supreme Court and Rabbi Shlomo Amar<\/a> would collapse on the matter.<\/p>\n

The leaders of the RCA and the OU seem to feel inferior to the charedim<\/a>. I can’t imagine Basil Herring or Steven Weil rocking the boat with the charedim.<\/p>\n

The RCA had more confidence when Rav Yosef Ber Soloveitchik<\/a> was alive.<\/p>\n

The RCA<\/a> is the rabbinic arm of the OU<\/a>. The two organizations tend to mirror each other. Sometimes it is hard to tell which one is leading.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
