\n\u201cAs an Israeli citizen, someone who understands your identify, who has a sense of nationhood and peoplehood and the history and experience of the Jewish people, you should respect someone like me who has analogous feelings about whites,\u201d Spencer told anchor Dany Cushmaro. \u201cI mean, you could say that I\u2019m a white Zionist in the sense that I care about my people. I want us to have a secure homeland that for us and ourselves just like you want a secure homeland in Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cushmaro did not follow up on Spencer\u2019s comparison, which is not uncommon in far-right circles, though it is widely rejected by Israelis and Israel supporters.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the interview, Cushmaro pressed Spencer to explain why the far-right protestors\u2019 chants of \u201cJews will not replace us\u201d and other \u201canti-Jewish slogans\u201d were not anti-Semitism. Spencer, a leader of the racist and anti-Semitic \u201calt-right\u201d movement, justified the rhetoric, citing Americans\u2019 right to free speech and Jews outsise role in left-wing American politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact is, Jews, let\u2019s be honest, Jews have been vastly overrepresented in the historical left. Jews are vastly overrepresented in the left right now. They\u2019re vastly overrepresented in what you could call the establishment, that is, Ivy League-educated people who really determine policy, and white people are being disposed from this country,\u201d he said. \u201cSo some in the crowd were making a statement. This is a free country. People are allowed to speak their mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked how he would like to see President Donald Trump respond to Charlottesville, Spencer said he should investigate why the city\u2019s mayor, Michael Signer, who is Jewish, and Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe \u201callowed chaos to reign.\u201d He claimed that he and the other protesters were \u201cpeaceful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spencer also said both the alt-right and Trump are \u201csymptoms of a greater cause, and that is the demographic dispossession of white people in the United States and around the world.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
