Jim Goad’s GIGANTIC BOOK OF SEX<\/a> comes out in April. “It’s entirely composed of things I’ve written for sex mags, because they are the only people who will employ an ex-con.”<\/p>\n

Jim calls Sunday night, Feb. 11<\/a>: “I’m going to be a supporting actor in a movie (an update of an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel) in Australia. In June, I’m going on tour with Hank Williams III.”<\/p>\n

Luke: “I didn’t know you could sing.”<\/p>\n

Jim: “I’m a multi-faceted pearl.”<\/p>\n

“Hank’s a fan of The Redneck Manifesto<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

“Answer Me!: The First Three<\/a> just went into a new print run.”<\/p>\n

Luke: “America is a great country.”<\/p>\n

Jim: “The last time I talked to you, I was getting ready to fly to Australia.”<\/p>\n

Luke: “How did it go?”<\/p>\n

Jim: “They detained me at customs for four hours.”<\/p>\n

“I was flown in for John Safran<\/a>. He wanted me to talk about domestic violence on his show. I said, ‘Australia was founded by convicts but it is a little weird about letting convicts in. You have to check it out on your side.’ He said it was fine.<\/p>\n

“Two hours before landing, they hand out these little cards and you have to check whether you have ever been convicted of a crime.”<\/p>\n

“After three hours [of detention], I asked them to put me back on the plane. They asked me to write an affidavitt of what I intended to say on the show. They faxed it to Canberra. They came back five minutes later and said it was very eloquent and that I could leave.<\/p>\n

“I was there for six days. Melbourne. South Australia. I’ve never come across a more racist environment. Everyone talks about niggers. Everyone’s openly bigoted.”<\/p>\n

Luke: “It’s kinda nice, isn’t it?”<\/p>\n

Jim laughs. “It’s definitely different. Simultaneously, at least in the media, there’s this huge push for multi-culturalism. I heard ‘multi-culturalism’ more times in 24 hours than I’ve heard in my life.”<\/p>\n

Luke: “In America, when you come through customs, most people are black. In Australia, everyone’s white.”<\/p>\n

Jim: “Are you feeding me a line?”<\/p>\n

“The primary racial tension down there is Europeans vs. Lebanese.”<\/p>\n

Luke: “Did it make you feel good?”<\/p>\n

Jim: “The racially charged environment? It was amusing. That’s all.”<\/p>\n

Luke: “Are you still with Jennifer [Osborne]<\/a>?”<\/p>\n

Jim: “We were together to do a book [on Nascar].”<\/p>\n

Luke: “I thought she was your girlfriend.”<\/p>\n

Jim: “No. You asked me about that. I never responded.”<\/p>\n

“We’re going to write a children’s book.”<\/p>\n

“I called John Safran<\/a> Australia’s greatest Jew. He’s going to use that as a blurb on his next project.”<\/p>\n
