I knew I was going to need all my strength.<\/font><\/p>\n<div class=\"inlineLeft\">\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">&quot;Fifteen of  us, along with porters and guides, were about to climb Thorong La, a pass 17,769  feet up in the Himalayas.&quot;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">So begins a &quot;Personal Journeys&quot; <a href=\"http:\/\/travel.nytimes.com\/2009\/09\/27\/travel\/27personal.html?em\">travel article<\/a> in today&#8217;s New York Times titled  &quot;In Nepal, a Long, Cold Climb to Inspiration.&quot;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/09\/27\/nyregion\/27maloney.html?_r=1&amp;hp\">news article<\/a> in the Times this weekend, however, might give readers some serious reservations before rushing to book   flights to Nepal or Tibet to go mountain climbing in the Himalayas.&nbsp;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"> That  article says, in part:<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><font> <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">The husband of [Democratic U.S.] Representative Carolyn B. Maloney  of  New York died after scaling a mountain peak during an expedition in Tibet, Ms.  Maloney&rsquo;s office announced on Saturday.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<div class=\"inlineLeft\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"image\">\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">Her husband, Clifton H. W. Maloney, 71, had returned safely to  a high-altitude base camp after reaching the summit of the 27,000-foot Himalayan  peak Cho Oyu&#8230;<\/font><\/font>Mr. Maloney said he was &ldquo;the happiest man in the world,&rdquo; went to sleep and never woke up, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">The statement described Mr. Maloney as an avid climber, sailor and runner who  had finished the New York City Marathon 20 times. He was a vice president at Goldman  Sachs before starting his own investment firm, C. H. W. Maloney &amp; Company,  in 1981&#8230;<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<div style=\"border: medium none ; overflow: hidden; text-align: left; background-color: transparent; width: 0px; height: 0px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-decoration: none;\">\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/topics\/Clifton+Harlan+Wells+Maloney\" title=\"Clifton Harlan Wells Maloney\">ifton Harlan Wells Maloney<\/a>, 71, a millionaire  investment banker, was an avid mountaineer who finished the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/topics\/New+York+City+Marathon\" title=\"New York City Marathon\">New York City Marathon<\/a> 20 times.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">He reached the 27,000-foot summit of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/topics\/Cho+Oyu\" title=\"Cho Oyu\">Cho  Oyu<\/a>, the sixth highest peak in the world, on Thursday, then came down to a  base camp at 23,000 feet where he died in his sleep, Arzt said.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">His last words before going to sleep were, &quot;I&#8217;m the happiest man in the  world. I&#8217;ve just summited a beautiful mountain.&quot;<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\">Cho Oyu, which means &quot;Turquoise Goddess&quot; in Tibetan, is on the border of  China and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/topics\/Tibet\" title=\"Tibet\">Tibet<\/a>.
