Other opinionators were having the same thought.<\/p>\n<p>The one who\u2019s been getting most coverage\u2014no, I don\u2019t begrudge it, honestly [<em>sound of weeping<\/em>]\u2014is the <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/american-greatnesss-decius-to-nevertrumpers-2016-is-the-flight-93-election' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/american-greatnesss-decius-to-nevertrumpers-2016-is-the-flight-93-election\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/american-greatnesss-decius-to-nevertrumpers-2016-is-the-flight-93-election']);\">pseudonymous writer Decius<\/a> and his <a title='http:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2016\/09\/05\/flight-93-election\/' href=\"http:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2016\/09\/05\/flight-93-election\/\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2016\/09\/05\/flight-93-election\/']);\">The Flight 93 election<\/a>. They will serve as court jesters to the triumphant <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/yes-virginia-there-is-a-cultural-marxism' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/yes-virginia-there-is-a-cultural-marxism\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/yes-virginia-there-is-a-cultural-marxism']);\">Cultural Marxist <\/a> ruling power, chattering away impotently and raising an occasional laugh while the transformation of our republic into a northern hemisphere <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/george-wills-disappearing-problem' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/george-wills-disappearing-problem\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/george-wills-disappearing-problem']);\">Brazil <\/a> proceeds unhindered.<\/p>\n<p>Still, neither commentator ventures very far into the speculative badlands we explore on the Alt Right: questions about <em>why<\/em> different <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/raymond-wolters-on-three-race-theories-white-culpability-interracial-contact-human-biodiversity' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/raymond-wolters-on-three-race-theories-white-culpability-interracial-contact-human-biodiversity\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/raymond-wolters-on-three-race-theories-white-culpability-interracial-contact-human-biodiversity']);\">ancestral populations<\/a> display such different outcomes when considered in quantity, as communities or nations.<\/p>\n<p>If, following a Clintocalypse, the machinery of state falls entirely into the hands of Cultural Marxist  apparatchiks, one thing we may expect is more of a clampdown on dissent. Some suggestive recent developments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>The National Press Club<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>OK, it\u2019s a private organization headquartered in Washington, DC for the promotion of journalism. It advertises itself as \u201cthe world\u2019s leading professional organization for journalists.\u201d It\u2019s venerable, founded 1908; the same year, if I am not mistaken, as saw the establishment of America\u2019s\u2014in fact I think the <em>worlds\u2014<\/em>first <a title='https:\/\/journalism.missouri.edu\/' href=\"https:\/\/journalism.missouri.edu\/\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/journalism.missouri.edu\/']);\">School of Journalism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>(Of course I <a title='http:\/\/www.johnderbyshire.com\/Opinions\/Culture\/journalistsarescum.html' href=\"http:\/\/www.johnderbyshire.com\/Opinions\/Culture\/journalistsarescum.html\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.johnderbyshire.com\/Opinions\/Culture\/journalistsarescum.html']);\">scoff and sneer<\/a> at this <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/steve-scalise-the-new-republic-and-the-end-of-journalism' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/steve-scalise-the-new-republic-and-the-end-of-journalism\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/steve-scalise-the-new-republic-and-the-end-of-journalism']);\">elevation <\/a> of <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/letters\/a-reader-and-former-journalism-student-recalls-his-experience-with-the-los-angeles-times' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/letters\/a-reader-and-former-journalism-student-recalls-his-experience-with-the-los-angeles-times\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/letters\/a-reader-and-former-journalism-student-recalls-his-experience-with-the-los-angeles-times']);\">journalism <\/a> into a credentialed profession like dentistry or civil engineering).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/vdare-live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/07121550\/What_Is_the_Alt_Right_Tickets_Fri_Sep_9_2016_at_1_00_PM_Eventbrite_-_2016-09-07_12.13.21.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" align=\"right\" \/>But the National Press Club puts on speaker events and debates on topics of public interest, especially when those topics cause a stir in the world of journalism. It was therefore entirely natural that they would agree to host <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/alt-right-press-conference-on-friday-featuring-peter-brimelow-and-richard-spencer-at-the-national-press-club' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/alt-right-press-conference-on-friday-featuring-peter-brimelow-and-richard-spencer-at-the-national-press-club\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/alt-right-press-conference-on-friday-featuring-peter-brimelow-and-richard-spencer-at-the-national-press-club']);\">a session on the Alt Right<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Mrs. Clinton\u2019s August 24th speech, the expression \u201cAlt Right\u201d is recognized today by several thousand <em>times<\/em> more Americans than were aware of it on August 23rd. So this was an excellent topic for airing\u2014just the kind of thing the National Press Club exists for. Right?<\/p>\n<p>This event was the brainchild of <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/richard-b-spencer-alt-right-banned-at-the-national-press-club' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/richard-b-spencer-alt-right-banned-at-the-national-press-club\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/richard-b-spencer-alt-right-banned-at-the-national-press-club']);\">Richard Spencer, <\/a> whose <a title='http:\/\/www.npiamerica.org\/' href=\"http:\/\/www.npiamerica.org\/\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.npiamerica.org\/']);\">National Policy Institute<\/a>[NPI] is a major pillar of the Alt Right edifice. Spencer is in fact sometimes described as the leader of the Alt Right, although not many acknowledge that the Alt Right <em>need<\/em>s a leader.<\/p>\n<p>Scheduled speakers were Richard himself of course,<a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/jared-taylor-donald-trump-white-supremacism-and-the-insanity-of-the-washington-post' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/jared-taylor-donald-trump-white-supremacism-and-the-insanity-of-the-washington-post\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/jared-taylor-donald-trump-white-supremacism-and-the-insanity-of-the-washington-post']);\"> Jared Taylor<\/a> of <em>American Renaissance<\/em>, and our own Dear Leader here at VDARE.com <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/users\/peter-brimelow' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/users\/peter-brimelow\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/users\/peter-brimelow']);\">, Peter Brimelow.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Suddenly, <a title='http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2016\/09\/07\/national-press-club-cancels-alt-right-press-conference\/' href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2016\/09\/07\/national-press-club-cancels-alt-right-press-conference\/\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2016\/09\/07\/national-press-club-cancels-alt-right-press-conference\/']);\">on Wednesday evening<\/a>, just a few hours after the event had been announced, the National Press Club reneged on their contract and cancelled the event.<\/p>\n<p>The Club cited \u201csecurity concerns.\u201d That is somewhat less than persuasive. For one thing, Richard Spencer had told them that should any extra security be required, his outfit, the NPI, would pay for it.<\/p>\n<p>For another thing, the National Press Club has hosted several of NPI\u2019s events before, going back at least five years. Last October they actually hosted NPI\u2019s annual conference. More evidence of the intensifying clampdown on dissent.<\/p>\n<div  class='alignright' >\n<div  class='book-unit' ><a  href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1312762403\/?tag=unco037-20\" ><img  src='http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/41zG-m7%2B4QL.jpg' \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div  class='book-order' >ORDER IT NOW<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For yet another thing, the Club has hosted events that raised far more security concerns than NPI. Nine years ago for example <a title='https:\/\/www.press.org\/sites\/default\/files\/20070924ahmadinejad.pdf' href=\"https:\/\/www.press.org\/sites\/default\/files\/20070924ahmadinejad.pdf\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','download','http:\/\/www.press.org\/sites\/default\/files\/20070924ahmadinejad.pdf']);\">they hosted Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad<\/a>, Li\u2019l Squinty himself, outspoken Jew-hater and Holocaust-Denier.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/vdare-live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/08130226\/unnamed.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" align=\"right\" \/>The cancellation came accompanied by what sounded to me very like the squeaking of weasels. the Director of the National Press Club, <a title='http:\/\/www.press.org\/news-multimedia\/news\/club-extends-mccarren-contract' href=\"http:\/\/www.press.org\/news-multimedia\/news\/club-extends-mccarren-contract\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.press.org\/news-multimedia\/news\/club-extends-mccarren-contract']);\">Bill McCarren<\/a>, [<a title='mailto:wmccarren@press.org' href=\"mailto:wmccarren@press.org\">Email him<\/a>] ,has over the past few weeks <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/national-press-club-director-bill-mccarren-who-cancelled-alt-right-press-conference-is-an-alt-right-hater\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/national-press-club-director-bill-mccarren-who-cancelled-alt-right-press-conference-is-an-alt-right-hater\"> tweeted or re-tweeted several items<\/a> enthusiastically supportive of Mrs. Clinton. Since the cancellation was announced he has <em>deleted<\/em> those of the tweets he had access to.<\/p>\n<p>Squeak! Squeak! And no, those were not squeaks of fear. What should McCarren be afraid of? In the elite media and journalistic circles in which he dwells, roughly 99 percent of his co-dwellers think that Alt Right spokesmen should be arrested and charged with hate speech.<\/p>\n<p>No, those weasel squeaks we heard were squeaks of <em>embarrassment<\/em>. The room where the Alt-Right event was to be held, you see, is called <a title='http:\/\/www.press.org\/services\/event-facilities\/first-amendment' href=\"http:\/\/www.press.org\/services\/event-facilities\/first-amendment\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.press.org\/services\/event-facilities\/first-amendment']);\">The First Amendment Lounge<\/a>, and is a space dedicated to freedom of the press. [<em>Laughter<\/em>.]<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/vdare-live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/09214309\/richardpeterjared.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" align=\"right\" \/>I suppose we can take some slight comfort in the fact that Weasel McCarren is, at least, still enough of a human being to be embarrassed.<\/p>\n<p>The event <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/tpm-on-the-alt-right-press-conference' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/tpm-on-the-alt-right-press-conference\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/tpm-on-the-alt-right-press-conference']);\"> took place anyway,<\/a> at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue\u2014a mere stone\u2019s throw, if you\u2019ll pardon the expression, from the White House. The <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/video-of-the-alt-right-press-conference' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/video-of-the-alt-right-press-conference\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/video-of-the-alt-right-press-conference']);\">precise venue was the Peacock Room.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>That prompts me to the following suggestion to Bill McCarren of the National Press Club. Perhaps, after a hundred-and-odd years, you might consider renaming some of <em>your<\/em> rooms to better reflect the journalistic milieu of the early 21st century. Follow the Willard\u2019s example: the First Amendment Lounge could become the Weasel Room.<\/p>\n<p>Another Clintocalypse clampdown victim:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>James Watson<\/em>, the <em>world\u2019s greatest living<\/em> <em>geneticis<\/em>t:<\/strong> Watson was co-discoverer of DNA, for which he shared the Nobel Prize.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/vdare-live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/09105515\/la-fi-mh-james-d-watson-20141201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" align=\"right\" \/>Professor Watson is a <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/q-does-race-exist-a-its-good-enough-for-government-work' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/q-does-race-exist-a-its-good-enough-for-government-work\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/posts\/q-does-race-exist-a-its-good-enough-for-government-work']);\">race realist<\/a>. Nine years ago he was <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/james-d-watson-a-modern-galileo' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/james-d-watson-a-modern-galileo\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/james-d-watson-a-modern-galileo']);\"> in the news <\/a> for publicly saying that sub-Saharan Africans have a low average intelligence. He had previously said out loud that <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/charles-murrays-jewish-genius' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/charles-murrays-jewish-genius\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/charles-murrays-jewish-genius']);\">Ashkenazi Jews <\/a> have a <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/letters\/a-reader-questions-peter-sayles-on-the-myth-of-jewish-superior-intelligence' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/letters\/a-reader-questions-peter-sayles-on-the-myth-of-jewish-superior-intelligence\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/letters\/a-reader-questions-peter-sayles-on-the-myth-of-jewish-superior-intelligence']);\"><em>high<\/em> average intelligence.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Both things are a matter of common observation. Both things are supported by <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/iq-why-africa-is-africa-and-haiti-haiti' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/iq-why-africa-is-africa-and-haiti-haiti\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/iq-why-africa-is-africa-and-haiti-haiti']);\">decades of evidence.<\/a> Both things are, however, <em>not<\/em> to be spoken aloud in polite company. Watson lost his position as head of <a title='http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/the-recantation-of-dr-watson' href=\"http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/the-recantation-of-dr-watson\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.vdare.com\/articles\/the-recantation-of-dr-watson']);\"> Cold Spring Harbor <\/a> lab for what he said about blacks, and endured many indignities at the hands of CultMarx enforcers.<\/p>\n<p>Watson was invited to speak at New York University\u2019s Langone Medical Center, September 12th. But when the invitation was posted, activists at the NYU Student Council and something called the Student Diversity Initiative sent a honking letter to the organizers of the lecture. Professor Coyne objects to the cancellation of Watson\u2019s lecture, but in the most mincing, mealy-mouthed way possible, I suppose to safeguard his own social standing.<\/p>\n<p>He calls Watson\u2019s mild race realistic remarks \u201cprovocative, hurtful, and unevidenced,\u201d end quote.<\/p>\n<p>Provocative of what? Of disagreement? That\u2019s the very stuff of academic debate. It <em>should<\/em> be provoked in a university.<\/p>\n<p>Actually Coyne\u2019s second adjective tells us what\u2019s being provoked: hurt feelings.<\/p>\n<p>Fiddlesticks to hurt feelings. The world, <a title='http:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/quotes\/60076-the-world-is-everything-that-is-the-case' href=\"http:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/quotes\/60076-the-world-is-everything-that-is-the-case\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/quotes\/60076-the-world-is-everything-that-is-the-case']);\">said Wittgenstein<\/a>, is everything that is the case. Note he did <em>not<\/em> say, \u201ceverything that does not hurt your feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for Coyne\u2019s last adjective, \u201cunevidenced,\u201d it is a lie. There is a vast mass of evidence for race differences in intelligence. Such differences are also what you would expect <em>a priori<\/em>, as normal features of variation within species.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true we don\u2019t yet know the full genetic architecture of race differences in intelligence. As human-science blogger <a title='http:\/\/www.unz.com\/author\/jayman\/' href=\"http:\/\/www.unz.com\/author\/jayman\/\" >JayMan<\/a> says, though: You don\u2019t need to know the name and job title of every worker in the factory to know the factory produces widgets.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Conclusion:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since the Alt Right came to widespread attention last month, the question has been in the air: What unites us? What do we have in common?<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve even been asking it among ourselves. What is it that makes a person think: \u201cYeah, I belong to this Alt-Right they\u2019re talking about. All have been guests at my house, I am proud to say.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been to conferences, mingled with supporters, spoken myself. I know this territory really well. So what, in <em>my<\/em> opinion, makes the Alt-Right a distinct thing\u2014not by any means a party, a faction, or a movement, but a collection of souls with something in common?<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s my answer:<\/p>\n<p><em>We don\u2019t like flagrant nonsense in the discussion of human affairs. <\/em>We don\u2019t like being lied to. If you think you\u2019re seeing this by mistake, please let us know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>* On the other hand, [James] Woolsey isn\u2019t Jewish, so there\u2019s a reasonable chance he could change his mind. That is, he\u2019s not wedded to neocon views the way Jewish neocons are. That\u2019s a very important distinction. That\u2019s why Cheney and Rumsfeld are supporting Trump. The mightn\u2019t completely agree with him, but they realize he\u2019s far better for the country than the alternative. That\u2019s something Jewish panic merchants have an impossibly difficult time doing.<\/p>\n<p>* In defense of Prof. Coyne, he has been a consistent defender of freedom of speech. Given where he started, he\u2019s come a long way. You might say he was a \u201c68er\u201d in the Vietnam War days. He was a student of Richard Lewontin, one of the high priests of the Blank Slate. He now supports evolutionary psychology, and admires Steven Pinker, who attacked the Blank Slate in a book of that name. He is, however, an atheist (like me), and his readers are mainly leftists. All authors like to have readers. One can forgive Coyne for his \u201cmealy-mouthed, mincing\u201d defense of freedom of speech, given that it amounted to so much virtue signaling to his audience. For all that, Coyne isn\u2019t a man whose mind is completely closed. Telling him that he can only be saved if he gives all that he owns to the poor and follows the Derb is a bit much.<\/p>\n<p>* In an MA Applied Linguistics program at a well-regarded British university, I tried to base a thesis proposal on an analysis of how language is used to promote the elite\u2019s narrative on race\/HBD at the expense of scholars like Watson, and also to the detriment of democratic citizenries\u2019 generally by denying them access to information they need to make informed decisions. This approach to linguistic analysis is called critical discourse analysis (CDA). It\u2019s similar to what Sailer has been doing with lefty news articles over the past 20 years. My proposal was flatly rejected without my being given a chance to answer any questions first. I was told in no uncertain terms that 1) CDA could only be used from a leftwing perspective; 2) Watson was ignorant because blacks would score just as high on IQ tests as whites if they had invented them; and 3) that there is no such thing as race to begin with.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve since been looking for a peer-reviewed paper \u201cproving\u201d the existence of race and have yet to find one. This is a bigger stumbling block to studying race than I think most Alt-Right types realise. You cannot do any race-realism social science that is based on the concept of race without a peer-reviewed paper that explicitly hypothesises and then proves its hypothesis that race exists. Once we have that research paper, there\u2019s a lot we can start to do.
