{"id":101312,"date":"2016-07-15T07:07:02","date_gmt":"2016-07-15T15:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=101312"},"modified":"2016-07-15T07:11:14","modified_gmt":"2016-07-15T15:11:14","slug":"brooklyn-man-hangs-self-26th-new-york-orthodox-suicide-in-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lukeford.net\/blog\/?p=101312","title":{"rendered":"Brooklyn Man Hangs Self \u2014 26th New York Orthodox Suicide in Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><A HREF=\"http:\/\/forward.com\/news\/345095\/brooklyn-man-hangs-self-26th-new-york-orthodox-suicide-in-year\/?attribution=articles-hero-item-text-2\">Forward<\/a>: Brooklyn\u2019s Orthodox community is mourning the apparent suicide of 22-year-old construction worker Yakov Krausz, whose body was discovered Wednesday in an elevator motor room, the Daily News reported.<br \/>\nHis death marks at least the 26th suicide of a young adult in New York-area Orthodox community over the past ten months, according to Zvi Gluck, founder and director of the Orthodox social service group Amudim.<br \/>\nMembers of the Boro Park Shomrim, a private Orthodox security patrol, organized a frantic search for Krausz on Wednesday afternoon after he missed a meeting with his wife, according to reports.<br \/>\nThe Daily News reported that Krausz suffered from depression.<br \/>\n\u201cI am completely out of words right now,\u201d wrote activist Boorey Deutsch, a relative of Krausz, in a public Facebook post.<br \/>\nAs news of Krausz\u2019s death spread, friends circulated a parody version LMFAO\u2019s \u201cParty Rock Anthem\u201d created for Krausz\u2019s 2013 wedding.<br \/>\nAmudim\u2019s Gluck, who has been tracking suicides among men and women under the age of 35 in the Orthodox community in the New York area since last Rosh Hashanah, said that the Orthodox community needs to cultivate greater awareness of mental health issues.<br \/>\n\u201cOnce we can, as a community, accept that mental illness, sex abuse and addiction is as big a problem as it is, we can create programming to provide services,\u201d Gluck said. \u201cWe have to acknowledge that this is a problem that exists.\u201d<br \/>\nKrausz\u2019s suicide comes just weeks after Rebecca Wassertrum, 28, died after jumping off of the George Washington Bridge. That followed the July 2015 suicide of ex-Orthodox coder Faigy Mayer and the November 2015 suicide of Mayer\u2019s sister, Sarah Mayer.<br \/>\nGluck said that, until recently, any death of a young person was blamed on an \u201caneurysm.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s the shame factor that\u2019s killing the next generation,\u201d Gluck said. \u201cThat\u2019s what we\u2019re trying to take away.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Forward: Brooklyn\u2019s Orthodox community is mourning the apparent suicide of 22-year-old construction worker Yakov Krausz, whose body was discovered Wednesday in an elevator motor room, the Daily News reported.
