When you mention cosmetic dentistry in Los Angeles, the first dentist that comes to mind is Dr. William Dorfman. He is widely recognized as one of the country's leading dentists and is responsible for creating smiles for most of Hollywood's brightest stars. The innovative and accomplished Dr. Dorfman is also renowned in his field as an energy-brimming inventor and brilliant entrepreneur who has brought award-winning innovations to aesthetic dentistry. He has been consulted extensively for numerous television and magazine interviews, including most recently ABC's hit series, "Extreme Makeover," "The Today Show," "Entertainment Tonight," "EXTRA," "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" and "E! Entertainment Television." In addition, he has made numerous appearances on "Channel 4 News" in Los Angeles. Dr. Dorfman graduated from UCLA, where he was honored with the prestigious UCLA Outstanding Senior Award in 1980. He then received his dental degree in 1983 from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, where he was one of the youngest graduates ever to receive a doctorate degree. Upon graduation he completed a two-year residency at a dental hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 1985 Dr. Dorfman returned to the United States and established his private practice in aesthetic and general dentistry. In 1989, at the age of 30, Dr. Dorfman formed the now hugely successful company, Discus Dental, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer and distributor of tooth-whitening, oral hygiene and aesthetic dental products. Here he helped develop such ground-breaking professional take-home teeth whitening products as Nite White and Day White, both of which brighten smiles much more quickly, safely and effectively than conventional over-the-counter teeth-whitening strips and paint-on gels. Recently his company has launched Zoom!, a revolutionary in-office whitening system which uses a safe, effective and gentle light-activated gel to whiten by 6 to 10 shades in just over an hour; and Breath Rx, a complete line of breath freshening products available only in dentists' offices. Dr. Dorfman is a member of the American Dental Association and the Century City Medial Staff, and he is one of the only 33 Fellows in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, only two of whom are in Los Angeles. In addition Dr. Dorfman is a world-renowned lecturer and author of the best-selling cosmetic dentistry book, The Smile Guide, one of the most popular books ever in dentistry. He also served as editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Dorman is the founder and program coordinator of P.A.C.-live, a continuing education program to teach practicing dentists state of the art cosmetic dental skills on live patients at the University of the Pacific Dental School. He has been honored by being recognized as the "Best Aesthetic Dentist in Los Angeles" in Los Angeles Magazine, and by the young age of 42 was awarded not only one but two lifetime achievement awards from dentistry academies. Throughout his accomplished career, Dr. Dorfman has been committed both to educating the public about the world of dentistry and to giving back to the community. In association with the Crown Council of dentistry, he has offered Discus Dental's assistance in providing all of the whitening materials for its annual four-month charity campaign, Smiles for Life. Each year the Crown Council donates its time and services to offer tooth whitening at a lower rate. Then it donates 100% of the money earned to country signer Garth Brook's Teammates for Kids Foundation, which in turn gives to children's charities across the U.S. Thus far they have raised and donated $15 million to more than 115 children's charities, including St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and the Children's Dental Center. In addition Dr. Dorfman is dedicated to aiding the many graduates of Los Angeles' Battered Women's Shelter, a downtown refuge that helps survivors of harrowing physical violence heal and rejoin the world. Since 1997 he has helped restore the smiles of abused girlfriends and wives, rape victims, former prostitutes and drug addicts at no charge. Dr. Dorfman is also active in the world of fitness and beauty, and has been a repeat judge for the Miss South Carolina beauty pageant. His personal fitness regime includes a strict, healthy diet, and he loves to water and snow ski, bike, climb, swim and scuba dive. When away from his busy office, Dr. Dorfman enjoys spending time with his three daughters, Anna, Charlotte and Georgia. Additionally, he is an aspiring painter, photographer and musician.
