Acne is a complex and for many individuals a frustrating skin condition. There are a lot of misconceptions and rumors about the origin of acne, what causes it, and how to treat it. It's important that when you are battling acne, you know as much as you can. When you know what causes it, you'll then know what you can do to help prevent it. However, what may work for one person may not work for you, because everyone is different.

The external effects caused my acne are obvious. Those ugly red bumps with white puss are a source of anxiety and frustration for people all around the world, but especially teens. It can cause them to feel extremely isolated and awkward in their already painfully angst-driven high school lives where they are ostracized for the most minute differences. It can interfere with their everyday activities and even lead to depression.

Acne can strike at any age, not just in your teenage years. The terrible thing about acne developing as you are older is that as your skin ages, problems with it become more complex. Typically, when adults have acne-related troubles, it involves scarring, and other conditions that are often troublesome to cure or even treat.

There are two types of acne that you can classify yours as being, no matter how old you are, and those types of inflammatory and non-inflammatory. Non-inflammatory is characterized by the breakouts of white or blackheads or sometimes even both. The inflammatory type includes papules and pustules. Sometimes if it is a very serious condition an adult can develop a cyst.

Before you begin acne treatment, you have to decide which type you have. After you do that, you can go from there. No matter what type you have, there is hope out there for you in some form of treatment or another. It's a matter of hanging on and being patient while you explore all the different kinds of treatments available for you. Eventually, you will be able to attain the kind of skin you have always dreamed of.
