‘Shabbos Kodesh’

For years, Shalhevet students have had the habit of dancing down the halls singing "Shabbos Kodesh!"

That means "holy Sabbath."

All the classrooms would erupt with "Shabbos Kodesh!"

The powers that be went crazy at this and tried to stamp it out. They put people on detention. They yelled and screamed. They failed.

The seniors would pull a prank every year before going to Israel. They’d break into the school and they’d decorate a classroom in a way that was not destructive but was disruptive. One year a room was done in aluminum foil. Another year one was covered with stickies. Another room got a Christmas display.

The powers that be didn’t appreciate this. In response, ex-Shalhevet students put together a satirical paper called "The Rolling Joint" that accused their tormentors of being child molesters.
